Nesta Silvera vs. Cardinal Gibbons

With the way we rotate guys on Defense, if he's showing he's ready in camp, he should get snaps during the season.

He's gonna be an impact player in the future. Maybe not a starter as a TF, but he'll play.

He'll definitely be a starter in his Sophomore/Junior seasons. This kid has the potential for greatness, not just good, but great at Miami.

it's doubtful he starts next year or is even the 4th dt. ford, willis, bethel and one of norton/mcintosh. he's gonna play, but, will be sparingly and certain situations.

Agree. Ford/Norton and Willis/McIntosh/Bethel leaves him fighting for PT. Now if Norton cuts for the NFL, I do think Nesta will get serious burn at that spot.

Not so sure about that. I don't trust that Willis will be back (I hope I'm wrong). And while Ford and Bethel have contributed, neither are world-beaters. Depending on what happens with Norton and McIntosh, there's a good chance Silvera plays alot as a FR.

Is he an EE???

If so with work with felder I could see him coming in and being in the rotation like Joe J and Garvin this year...

Anything later and I wouldnt expect much from since we have some depth and lets be honest the trenches its where you truly want older developed kids who can get it done

I like his first step and lateral movement, but am concerned about pad level and overuse of bull rush.

What’s awesome about the above noted, the first two can’t be taught and are the most important things being a DL, while the other two can be taught.

Pretty sure he will be in the Norton/Moten/Ford NG/over spot. Willis, McIntosh, Bethel all play the 3 tech/under. Nesta appears to be a little bigger than our 3 techs. In short, it will come down to Norton and Ford. This means Nesta will play much like Ford has played behind Moten (injuried) and Norton. Does he jump Ford? Potentially

Too many unknowns to reliability predict his playing time next year. Will McIntosh, Norton, and Willis be back? All three could be gone, all three could return, and any combination in between. I think we're lucky if one of those three is here next season, but who knows.

A couple of Gibbons' kids told me a couple of weeks ago that they had a couple of OL who could handle Nesta. I guess not.

WOW!! This kid is a beast, a man amongst boys.. He just plays with that nastiness, when he tackles players he really gets into it.. He's not the type of player that just wraps and fells, he tries to hurt them!!

The kid he completely destroyed at the :50 sec mark is Willie Hepburn. He's a '19 kid i believe. I know he said the Noles were looking at him and he has a few offers but none from the big 3.. but yeah.. Nesta is a beast. Can't wait to see him suit up for his. You can't teach what he's got. Definition of a dog.

What he did to that dude at the :50 mark was obscene!

Hide yo kids, hide yo wives, cause he rapin’ err body out thur!

I think he definitely gets meaningful playing time as a FR.

The amount of early attrition at DT will determine his PT. If two of McIntosh, Norton, and Willis return, Nesta will play about as much as Ford this year.

Every time i watch Nesta play I see Jerome Brown.

Same attitude.

100%.
That's why people need to slow down a little bit with all the excitement. He's gonna need to be coached up when he gets here. He's extremely raw and one-dimensional right now... and that one dimension doesn't work on the next level. I've seen film of him at camps getting absolutely nowhere trying that bull-rush stuff against legit linemen. The good news is that the traits he has are uncoachable. He's freakishly strong and explosive and has a nasty demeanor. I think he probably knows how to use other tools but he genuinely enjoys putting his hands on people and moving them.

Yeah, agreed with all the above. During his true freshmen year, the coaches can do one o two things:

1) Redshirt him and work on the above noted and get into the S&C program (since we do have a formidable amount of depth at DT); or
2) Get him in the two deep rotation at NT, but he'd be a guy who would come on late 3rd quarter and 4th quarter and bully tired offensive linemen.

Now the benefits of the first are quite obvious, long term he'll be a GREAT player in all facets of a NT, but we lose depth at the position and he could become disgruntled (I'm going based on the South Florida attitude the board preaches, I know nothing about this, I live in Northern Ontario in Canada).
The cost and benefit analysis of throwing him in there as a true freshmen are, base don the prognosis I gave is, he continues his trend of wanting to bull rush often and let Coach Kul coach him throughout the season at that time and hope to see an improvement.

It'll be interesting how his progression comes along, lots of good traits that he has, prototypical build, great lateral movement, a mean streak, a great first step and good use of hands (which those are absolutely instrumental to being an elite NT overtime), but his mean streak has its negative within the constant bullrush and the pad level thing is the hardest to overcome.
