NCAA is exploring granting athletes *5* playing seasons (not 4) over 5 years

I think they should just make it you have 5 years after you graduate HS and upon you starting college of eligibility, period. You enroll in a college your 5 yr clock begins, period. How it gets used is irrelevant.

Then you can Only be granted an extra year of eligibility under 1 circumstance - Season ending injury in final year of eligibility when you have played 4 games or less and missed the rest of the season (so no returning for playoff type **** either).

That imo is fair across the board

Injuries can wipe out a season at any time. I would allow multiple medical redshirts but the injury needs to cost the player a full season before the season, or perhaps within the first 4 games. No returning for CFP or bowls. No medical redshirts for missing games off and on with a nagging injury.

Think of Trevonte Citizen. Blew his knee in fall camp as true freshman. Never returned, although maybe he could have late in his second season. Should he be penalized for a rehab set back?

And No to your 5 years from graduating HS rule. Too restrictive for those on religious missions (like BYU) and those who choose to try college after a few years, like those few who try another sport, like baseball or track and field.

The clock does start ticking once you start.

No more redshirt seasons.

I see NAIA and DIII supporters complaining about the JUCO ruling

I didn’t know DIII doesn’t have Redshirt years

Guess NAIA supporters just wanting extra years as well

I do believe decent solution would be 5 years total eliminating Redshirt year and a cap on Medical Redshirt seasons

I think there should be a “grandfather clause” where if a player stays in college long enough to become a grandfather like Cam McCormick has, he gets infinite eligibility and can keep playing cfb forever.
