NCAA/Florida

PSU was a unique situation. NCAA had to step in on that one to satisfy the court of public opinion. Plus my personal belief is that jack *** Emmert was just looking for a situation like that to give himself some publicity.

Trust me I agree the NCAA should do something. I was calling for that when Meyer still coached at Florida. The very definition of LOC was happening at that time and the NCAA should have done something. However the NCAA refuses to get involved with legal matters.

Ohio State gets hammered for getting some tattoos for free but 44 arrests get nothing?

osu got hammered because tressel failed to alert the ncaa that he had reason to believe some of his players had participated in something that would make them ineligible.

the tattoos didn't mean much.

edit: and the proximity of that to the troy smith $500 handshake let the ncaa hit them with repeat offender and ftm

correct, so tressel covers up, paterno covers up, now if meyer covers up plus 44 arrests, do we see the NCAA?

they had e-mails on tressel. what do they have on meyer? nothing that i've heard.

you keep saying 44 arrests like it matters. the ncaa is not law enforcement. arrests are public record. he's not covering up arrests.

you gonna give him a "show cause" because he recruits scumbags?

i just don't get what exactly you think the ncaa has on meyer at florida.

You can't tell me that Meyer didn't know anything about some of these crimes and did not step in or report them (potentially in email, text or phone records). He will report his old coach for a secondary violation in a heartbeat though. NCAA got pretty heavily involved at PSU in a criminal case (yes I understand that their higher ups screwed up) but you can't be surprised if the same thing wasn't going on at UF with their higher ups to keep these kids on the field.

The ncaa is a criminal organization-----turds/$ec are their friends.

Maybe some ambitious S.I. writer will visit Hernandez in prison and find him bitter and ready dime on UF.

The NCCA really made a mistake on the Penn St thing, now they will be expected to step in the next time something criminal happens at a school. The Sandusky thing is pretty bad, but when the football culture allows violence of the players to go overlooked, isn't that as bad?

Agree with the bolded, but the NCAA won't feel obligated to apply the PSU standard in the absence of child rape.

But the child rape had nothing to do with the players, but with the administration and at least Paterno. No player was involved, at least not any that I heard of. Can't see any advantage to be gained by the program as well. I don't think the NCAA had any business in this at all. It had nothing to do with the so called student-athletes.

it was politics. they stretched the definition of "institutional control" to include the criminal investigation.

I've never read the NCAA charter or bylaws but I can't imagine any institution losing control more than PSU in this case. With such horrible consequences of that loss of control, I can't blame the governing body for making an example of a member institution that put football above their obligation to their community.
