NC State (Game 3) 1pm ACCNX

What we are is top 10 in multiple polls, #18 in the RPI and two games ahead of NC State in the league standings.

So if anybody can't see the big picture here it's you.
I don’t think you know what big picture means. But I’m sure you also thought we were a good football team when we were 8-1.

This board is so much better with the core group that is in here each and every game. You all want to crown this team/program in early March. So be it. I hope we continue to get better and make a run at it. What I have seen from this club thus far doesn’t make me believe that is realistic. But it’s a long season and as tough of a schedule as anyone in country so we will see.

It's not my fault that you're a laughable poster that nobody takes seriously, even your negative allies.

Somehow, it's perfectly fine to bury the team in March but to simply say we're fine right now is "crowning" them.

Aren’t you the guy that continues to get banned from this board yet you keep coming back with new usernames to pick fights with anyone you can?

That's your comeback?

You have to realize that when it comes to college sports, your mindset is in the minority. "Hey, at least we got a shake and the Maniac came by" might be enough for some people, but there are bigger stakes than that.
Absolutely not. My mindset is in the overwhelming majority. There are a few dozen posters on this thread, yet Mark Light regularly draws thousands (pre-COVID). A bad product would eventually diminish that, but the majority of fans are there for the experience.

But enlighten me, what are the "bigger stakes"?

I'm surprised to find out that you are not 17 years old. Only an immature kid could possibly by that melodramatic. Do you not have professional challenges, family challenges, health challenges, and all of the other challenges that are a natural part of adult life? Do you not see lots of suffering in the world around you? Save your gloom-and-doom for those things. On your free time, try to find something that you enjoy and makes you happy.

Or don't, whatever. Continue being miserable. I'll continue to have a positive disposition when it comes to one my biggest hobbies, Canes sports.

Y’all have trouble seeing the forest through the trees. Winning does not excuse playing poorly. This isn’t survive and advance. It isn’t one bad game. It’s who we are and it will catch up to us if it isn’t fixed.
Here's the big picture for you:

-Our RPI is 18th
-Our SOS is 12th
-Our ELO is 15th
-The human rankings have us in the top 10 (at least the two that I've seen today, BA and D1)
-We can all agree we have not played our best baseball yet
-We can all agree this is a young team (20/35 players are new)

I'm really excited to see how you spin those objective facts to fit your mope narrative.

We should be ecstatic about where this team is. Despite not clicking yet, we are in clear position to host a regional and are positioned to make a run at a top 8 seed.

The kum-ba-yah stuff is disgusting. "It's just a game. Look at all the suffering in the world." Pathetic. You're just happy that we have a team with uniforms.

Here’s the actual big picture for you

-108th in total runs scored (111th in scoring avg)
-194th in batting avg
-140th in hits
-150th in OBP

-147th in ERA
-100th in WHIP
-208th in fielding percentage

Do you think those numbers correlate to a top 10 team?

How is it that when it comes to football, polls don’t matter bc they are biased. But when it comes to baseball, they are taken as gospel?

Why did you dodge my question? What are the "bigger stakes" you're referring to? Since so much is on the line, it should be pretty easy for you to articulate what these massive stakes are.

I criticize this team all the time. (Toral has been terrible, the middle relief has been pretty poor, most of the lineup hasn't gotten going, Gino plays too much small ball, etc.) But what the mopes do on this board, day-in and day-out, is on another level. It's like they are personally offended by any poor play. It's mindboggling and pathetic.

I would say it's also because they don't understand baseball: it's a long season and you can't read too much into any given play, game, series, or even month. Toral may hit 5 HRs this week and be on track for AA by the end of March. But the mopes seem to be mopes about other sports, too, so lack of baseball knowledge wouldn't explain it.

...that's not the actual big picture. Is any of that SOS-adjusted?

After Miami plays one more game, it will qualify for Boyd's World's ISR, which is a better predictive rating system than any of those (except maybe ELO? Not sure). But given how weird today's ISR looks, probably too early in the season to put much stock in it.

What the heck are you talking about?

The baseball polls are biased, too. The rating systems are NOT biased. They're based on on-field results and performance, with no human input. During the football season, the analytical rating systems NEVER had Miami as anything close to a top 10 team. However, they consistently had Miami as a top 25 team, and sometimes top 20. As was the case with the human polls, Miami's final ranking was in the 20-25 range in most analytic rating systems.

Keep building your strawman though. I'm sure RandomCanesFanPoster69 was a real "sunshine pumper", and you really showed him that one time you told he was an idiot when he posted that Miami football was back after he had a couple of beers when he was happy that we won a game. No one will ever forget the eternal wisdom of NC_Canes_11 during the 2020 football season.

If it’s too early to take home we’ve played as who we are, how is SOS relevant? Wouldn’t it be too early to tell who anybody else is?

You quoted human polls, RPI and SOS as part of an argument. SOS and RPI take human polling into account.

Oh my. The ISR is not predictive. It is retrodictive. Even Boyd Nation admits that.
