So I said earlier in the week that this game was not important because we might lose, but because it might be a close game. Obviously I was almost wrong there. Many people here keep talking about going undefeated and we will jump Alabama and/or Oregon and I said this game is going to have an impact if we even want to think about that because we have to make sure to boost our national perception. Anything less than a 3 TD win on national tv as the only college game of the night against a team with a bad record (no matter what their talent level may actually be) and it will be just another win. 3+TD win and people get excited about our offense and see us as potentially legit and dangerous.

With that game last night, its already started. ESPN is all over it and are already back to talking about how Florida handed us the game. They have a 5 man panel right now just to talk about the ACC national perception now. We dominate that game last night and since we are already seen as the 3rd best team in the ACC, we would be seen as a legitimate 3rd contender. Now we might be lucky if we are not viewed as a non AQ undefeated team.

I will say one major surprise to me is Paul Finebaum, a usual SEC homer, actually defended Miami in this little group, and said Miami may have just not took UNC seriously. Either way, the only way we can save our reputation is by beating either Clemson or FSU or both. If we beat VT, I think people are still sleeping on them and will undervalue that win. As important as that win is to us, its less important to everyone else.

they have to beat fsu to be taken seriously and rightfully so, we should always beat every ACC team. Also they do not believe after thst win against UF cuz it was an ugly game.

we are who we are...still a young team with talent in the wings....we play like a young team with talent
would be all DID not see was a 2 yr started SR QB playing this poorly

MIAMI THE ONLY TEAM TO EVER STRUGGLE ON THE ROAD.

THE BIG BAD SEC HAS NEVER DONE THAT.

OR FSU. OR CLEMSON.

At this point I don't care what anyone else thinks, and I hope the team stops thinking about it too. They really need to play every game like they're 0-0.

No one is going to give us serious consideration until we handle FSU or Clemson, or we really put the beating on the rest of our schedule.

And quite frankly, we shouldnt expect them to. Wins against FAU and Savannah State, a 2-4 USF, and a narrow late minute win against a 1-5 UNC is not going to make "believers" out of most outside observers. The UF game was very close, and there is still very much a perception that if not for Driskell's meltdown, they would probably have won.

So until we beat some of these "hyped" teams, or start DECISIVELY beating the rest of our ACC competition, there are going to remain questions.

I honestly feel like most analysts believe that if/when we face a serious team like FSU or Clemson, that they are goign to beat the daylights out of us. Until we disprove that, they arent going to take us seriously.

We can't control perceptions. Only our performance.

I could care less. It's unlikely that we would jump an undefeated Bama or Oregon anyway under the current Dancing With the Stars/American Idol format that determines the MNC. Just win the ACC and let the chips fall where they may.

perception? No ofense, but perception only matters to those who don't...this game will strengthen this team's resolve...I rather have this game now, than blowout UNC n Wake n come up short in Tallynasty

I don't think the team thinks that way. Nothing about their play suggests that they care what their perception is. They played a close road game and found a way to win. That is it.

I think some of you are missing the point of the post though. This is more directed to those who think we are going to jump Alabama and Oregon or whatever other undefeated teams if we ourselves go undefeated. I also do not care that much about the perception, because in the end Miami can only control themselves. The point is we could very well still go undefeated, but with the national perception as it is now, there is 0 chance of us jumping an undefeated Alabama or Oregon team.

Personally, if we finish with less than 3 losses, I will be satisfied on the year. I hope we go undefeated, but being realistic. 3 losses is the minimum acceptable level for us this year.

who the **** cares what any analyst thinks. were 6-0 and thats the only thing i care about. win the games on ur schedule and worry bout the other **** later

If this was an SEC match up the story would be about how incredibly deep the SEC is because the last place team in division almost beat the first. Now the story is about how overrated Miami is for the close win. **** Em and as long as the CANES continue to win all will be fine with them!!

My personal reality is that we are 6-0. National perception isn't relevant at this point in the season.

Apparently half the people on this board do, because there are plenty of discussions on this board about if we can get into the title game if we go undefeated. Again, for me I don't care. I just want that undefeated season, but others do since I get negged when I say we won't jump the bama's and oregons.

So UF gets a pass and they "handed us" that win since they turned the ball over 4 times... but when we turn the ball over 4 times and STILL MANAGE TO WIN, that just means we're not that good.

Yep that sounds like typical homer SEC circular logic to me. Nothing new there.

Just keep winning.
