is that they understand that no matter how good he might be and the euphoria of the decision by our staff earlier, that there will be growing pains. Im all in with Kaaya but I know there will be instances where he'll be a freshman( a true frosh, at that) and it will show

Again, don't mistake this for lowered expectations in terms of what we want/need from this position or this team. My take is that if he's named the starting QB, you play ball without the training wheels. Miami has too many weapons to go into a shell and played scared. But again, there will be bumps in the road, I just hope this staff rides it out with him

Hold on everybody, this is gonna be a fun ride

Every young qb is going to go through it. It's up to the team to pick him up and make sure he is as sharp as he can be. We have that guys to help him acheive that. It's going to be a good season. Blacksburg, Lincoln , and FSU are the games I expect those frosh mistakes.

I just want to see a hope for the future. I also want to see a better QB at the end of the year than at the beginning. I'm fine with taking lumps now instead of next year. We'd have them regardless, so might as well get them over with.

We're on a slippery slope and this isn't the NFL where if you drop games you're rewarded. If he doesn't get it done out there, you pull him as fast as it takes to turn around and order his backup in.

I'd be thrilled with this decision if I was Louisville.

Edit: My hope is that the fan base isn't on his *** if he's not up to the challenge this early into his career. You'd be a fool to believe he's just going to trot out there and be a baller from day one.

K9 the problem is I think its "Show Me" time for this staff. Anything short of an ACC Title Game there is going to be a general consensus that Golden should be finished.

Its interesting that we are entering a season that the team has to start producing at a higher level with also the understanding that the most important position on the team is going to go through growing pains.

Kaaya is now the leader of a team and program that is desperate to win. Kid is in a tough spot but he is also in a spot to be remembered as a legend here. He has a stable of NFL talent at the skill positions around him. Its not helping with the idea of your post but Kaaya is really in a position to be remembered in 3-4 years as the guy who brought MIAMI Football back.

Lex, I don't disagree, and this whole dynamic is a paradox in many ways. But here's the way I look at it, Golden and Co.- like any other staff- will go with the guys who give them the best chance to win, bottom line. I'm told that Kaaya was clearly the guy and was from the very beginning of fall camp

But at the same time, this decision to me says Golden is secure in his standing, his future and where this program is headed. If he wasn't, IMO, goes safe. Here, he's acting like a coach who think he's on the verge of something big( knock on wood). Or maybe he just made a horribly bad decision, we'll start finding out in about 8 days.

My two cents is that there is no future in Heaps except 13 or 14 games, the future is now. Lets Kaaya get his feet wet while this staff keeps bringing in more talent around him( and both side of the ball, of course)

That being said, yeah, we demand results NOW. I'm not riding the fence on this, a 7-5 record would be a failure( regardless of who's under center)

He's been named the starter because he gives this team the best chance to win, week in and week out. So I'm going to hold him and every other guy that sees the field to that same expectation. I don't want to hear excuses when he or anyone else makes mistakes. Identify the problem, get it fixed, or move out the way. I'm ready for this **** to begin.

Miami should be "thrilled" with the decision too. It means that Kaaya is as good as advertised, and is the best QB on the roster. I'm sure Heaps would be fine under center, but he seems to have a ceiling. The fact that Kaaya has surpassed him already is a good sign for the future--including the immediate future in Louisville. He is starting because he gives Miami the best chance to win now. I seriously doubt that Golden is viewing this as a rebuilding season with players like Duke & DP in their final year.

I expect him to "ball" as well as any of the starters next week.

What your gonna see if that Kayaa performs bad...We will still blame Corch Golden for having to decide between a true freshman and a Heap of **** two time transfer...yes if you were wondering I will be one of those guys

To go on record again. And I'll stick to it. I called Heaps garbage and a two time transfer who lost his job twice and to add more to what I said about him being insurance plan, he lost competition to a true freshman.

I also mentioned before that I wouldn't be surprised if Heaps gets mad and bolts, I really think he thought he was gonna waltz in here and take the job. Take it for what it's worth, but those are my thoughts.

I also think Kaaya very advanced for a true freshman. Kaaya won fair and square, can't wait till Labor Day. Kaaya got some weapons on offense too to play with.

If Kaaya comes out and plays hard and proves himself, these guys will give their leg for him.

Good post. I think fans will differentiate between a kaaya mistake and overall poor play by the team. If the defense gives up 500 yards consistently there's going to be a lot of anger and rightfully so.

Also it's a results business and it sucks that Williams got hurt, but Goldens poor recruiting at the qb position doesn't absolve of the fact that he had to bring in heaps or play a true freshman cause he didn't have any other options. Golden needs to win the coastal and with kaaya in charge that doesn't change one bit.

I think this decision actually buys them some leeway - however small and proportionate to a disastrous season.

While the fans may be in show me mode, there's no doubt in my mind that barring something crazy like a gene chizik type collapse or a Bobby petrino lapse in judgment, Golden is here for a couple more years. I think he knows that, and he's aiming for when we should be real contenders (2016). Sure he (and I) want to win now, but imo golden has to have a bunker type mentality that's focused on building the type of talent and depth across the board that will make us contenders each and every year.

I agree with you to a certain extent but if the D isnt better and the QB spot flops its not impossible we are looking for a new or at the very least Golden is on his last strike

Agreed, I don't see how any Canes fan cant be excited about the future

With that said, to the here and now, it sure would help things if Kaaya is truly Ken Dorsey 2.0 and expedites this process. This is a season where we really could've used a patsy to begin the season. But it is, what it is. Let's play ball...

It took stones for Golden to make this decision. I'm glad he did for numerous reasons. It signals, as you stated, Golden believes he has found something special in this kid. Let Kaaya take the reigns and get that valuable experience.

I think Golden is safe for at least another year. If the growing pains are severe, and we struggle to a 7-5 season with another under performing defense changes will be made on that side of the ball. No other way around it. I really believe that. Golden will have an experienced field general going into next season so there's only one area left to be addressed, providing significant improvement isn't made this year.

Kaaya just needs to be steady this year. Show us he is indeed that Dude. I think he is.

As Kaaya stated after being told he da man, "let's go."

Agree.

The goal doesn't change though IMO. He's got to win the coastal. I believe every coastal team has a new qb at the helm. If we don't win the coastal the season should be deemed a failure.

I like our talent a lot. Obviously the 2016 class looks great and 2015 has some great players in it as well. I am cautiously excited though because I am not even close to sold on Golden and I have zero faith in D'Onforio

I really hope in 7 days I am feeling way better.
