Most disappointing group?

I had no doubt that our DL would dominate this year, I was wrong. I loved watching Jason Taylor play but as a coach I didn't see much from our DL. Bain 1, yes ONE tackle today. As a unit 2 sacks where Syracuse was supposed to be vulnerable. No one is sacred when it comes to failure. Our DL was supposed to bring so much pressure that our db's would benefit, didn't happen. Great players often make lousy coaches, am I wrong? Thoughts?

I think the secondary and LB play was so poor that it effected the DL play which has some individually talented players.

The DB's at least are young, what is the excuse of the DLine, they are atrocious, no penetration. You pay these kids and the lazy bubbles right to the surface. These are people acting like professionals to get paid but they did not earn it, because they don't understand how to earn it yet because they are kids!

They just wasted a great opportunity and probably cost Cam a heisman because for the past month he has been playing a different offense to try and cover for that horrific defense. Good luck ever playing in the league, that goes for Ruben Bain too, if he thinks that effort and those results get you anywhere in life then he is going to wake up severely disappointed in about 5 years.

We entered the year with zero expectations for the secondary yet somehow they are still the most disappointing group.

Defensive line. Absolutely.

Returning a potential All-American. Transfer portaled 2 of the most highly sought after edge players that cost a lot of money (Baron and Alston). Loaded up with fringe all-conference players on the interior (Barrow, Marley Cook and CJ Clark) and one panned out and two were non-existent all year.

A lot of money invested (Scott, Blount, Lightfoot - the transfers above) didn't come cheap.

This is an expensive room and really didn't deliver.

Doesn't help that we also saw a mass transfer of players from the DL over the first two years of Mario's tenure. Lost Elijah Roberts, Jared Harrison-Hunte most notably. But Nyjalik Kelly also had 5.5 sacks this year for UCF. Sucks.

But this is the room, for sure. I like Jason Taylor (although, he should explain himself about the EDGE group underperforming) but Big Joe can get lost as well as everyone else on the defense.

There's no other group as bad as this one.

If our DBs were even average, this is probably a 12-0 team. That's how bad these guys were this year. Our best DB was a true freshman. We had upperclassmen who looked lost all year.

If you think the DL play was bad go see who Big Joe is bringing in at DT in this recruiting class. Dude is useless coaching and recruiting yet is one of two coaches (Mirabal) that’s been here from day one

I didnt have high expectations for the secondary, so I haven't been really disappointed by them. Disgusted? Sure.

The front 7, especially vs. the run, is where my disappointment is. Yeah we kicked a fg, but Syracuse then lined up under center for 8 plays. If our line and lb core were half of what we expected, we could have stopped them. Syracuse has a putrid run offense. We knew what was coming, and we couldn't do anything about it. Just like GT.
