Morris Redshirt

Is Vegas offering odds on our 2014 starting QB yet? I'm taking RS Frosh Kevin Olsen if they are.

The staff has apparently told Olsen they will be shirting him this year and we will have an open competition in 2014.

Olsen is far and away the most talented of any of these guys IMO. Williams is a career backup. I've never liked Dewey. Crow was always a long shot who we took for numbers. The kid from Westminster is an interesting prospect but if hes playing baseball in the springs I just don't ever see him developing into a starting QB. There will be an open and fair competition, but Olsen is in the drivers seat in 2014.

we don't need separation. right now, i'm not sold on crow or dewey being capable of leading this team. we shall see. if olsen wins the job or is the best man for the job, there will be transfers and separation won't matter.
so, if olsen redshirts and then starts and there are 2 guys ahead of him, how's it really matter? one or both of crow and dewey won't be staying.
i'm w/ jhall, money is on olsen starting in '14, and if that's the case, i'm more in favor of him playing some in '13.

Morris needed to play against MD in '10. His shirt would have been burnt anyway. What really cost Morris a redshirt was J12 being suspended to start the season in '11.

I don't know all the redshirt rules but couldnt Morris have come down with an "injury" and gotten a medical RS? (if he didnt play vs FSU). somehow feel like he coulda redshirted last year

JH suspension hurt. Morris could have redshirted at end of the year because he barely played after Maryland.

I agree with this. I also see no reason not to redshirt Olsen let the kid get bigger and stronger and learn the offense inside and out.

I believe in baby jesus olsen as much as the next guy, but does the ghost of Randy continue to ***** us by having burned Morris's shirt at UVA in 2010? I know it had to be done, but it was because there was no contingency for Jacory.

I think we will be good next year, and really come into our own in 2014, but that is a lot of pressure on a redshirt freshman. Given how Morris has progressed, it would have been awesome to see him with all of these young guys when I really expect them to make a run at the title.

I think Williams will be the starter his senior season and Olsen will take the helm after that... his RS SO year he will get the start...

Thats what happens when you let 2 QBs transfer during fall camp and have a grand total of 2 scholarship QBs on the roster.

You don't "let" them. If a kid wants to transfer, there is nothing to stop him.

The other thing is that both of those guys went to crap programs and eventually switched positions. We lost nothing when Cook and Smith transferred. If you want to fault Shannon, fault him for recruiting them in the first place.

yes, it was incredibly incompetent qb evaluation and recruiting that put us in this mess we are still trying to crawl out of.

No, he never should have been shirted(tried to be) in the first place. He should have been getting all the backup reps the second he stepped on campus. The scrubs that were getting the backup reps had no business being D1 QBs. The same way Olsen should get a lot of backup reps when he steps on campus.

I wouldn't mind Olsen getting some work next year either though I hope Morris stays healthy and we have that option.

I also am not writing off the other guys but Olsen is on another level talent wise and you know that kid is going to work his *** off. Its really all laid out in front of him to succeed here he just has to follow through now.

There is nothing to stop them? You use a sales pitch just like recruiting and talk one of them into staying so you dont have to burn a redshirt of a kid so you dont have to put Spencer Whipple in. Do you realize how many kids think about transferring their first year if things dont go right?

And yes, Nix and Shannon recruited some serious duds at QB

Why is it that every successful Miami player is assumed to leave early for the NFL (where even Heisman winners have failed)? Why is it that a new head coach with good potential is automatically going to move on to the next opportunity? How many posters on this football board are actually informed on what is going on in practice, who is doing what, and who will be the next guy to not make the grade?

Are these CFB constants, UM constants, or just internet fodder for speculation? Just wondering if there is anyone who can shed the light of history and reality to these questions.
