mirabal doing a great job with the oline

It's complimentary styles; sure Cam saves sacks - and the OL also allows him to throw way more TDs when they're providing those 5-6 second perfect pockets. I've seen more of those in a single game this season then in several years combined previously.

This to me is the best O-Line in years and I played the position in college. Look at the running game in key situations Saturday, they were outstanding. And look at 3rd down conversions, yds per play.

But it really doesn't matter what any of us think, the HC that put it together showed some gargantuan balls going for it on 4th and 1 on our own 25. He showed confidence in them.

This OL deserves a lot of credit as the engine that drives the train.

Bingo; that’s y it’s important to watch the games.

Here’s a fun fact: in 2023 between TVD & Williams, by game 7 we gave up a total of 6 sacks; 3 of which came against then #12 UNC.

In fact, I would argue if either one of those QBs still were QB1 here, that 11 sacks given up would probably be around the 16-18 mark. Cam has broken & gotten out of a few sack scenarios w/ his strength & athleticism.
You see the line as regressing overall?

If you ignore the sacks given up and just look at the overall tackles for loss given up, the Canes OL TFLs is very very low—Among the best in the country at not allowing lost yardage on rushing attempts.

Anyone really watching that OL performance of Saturday had to be impressed. Even Cristobol had to give kudos to the OL when asked about it on the Joe Rose Show. Saturday was one of the best overall performances I have seen this season

U tell me?

After week 7 (2023) we were 15th in the nation in sacks allowed

After week 7 (2024) we are 55th in the nation in sacks allowed

In 2023 after 7 weeks, we played a schedule that had a cumulative record of 26-25; in 2024, after 7 weeks, we’ve played a schedule that has a cumulative record of 23-25.

So we’re giving up more sacks w/ a better QB against poorer competition. Is Cam responsible for some of these sacks? Absolutely; but, is Cam also responsible for us not being even further on the stat chart of sacks allowed? Yes.

The OL has been a mixed bag this yr, keeping it solid.

Here’s my grades of each unit so far:

QB: A+
WR: A-
TE: B+
RB: B+
OL: B-
DL: B
LB: C
DB/S: D-

I don't remember a holding call on our first team OL on a run play this year either. Not losing yards from TFLs and penalties in the run game is huge. We've ran well in all 3 conference games while improving each week. Rivers was dominate run blocking whether at tackle or guard. Sky is the limit for our run game with the stable of backs we have and the liklihood that teams won't stack the box against Cam & the passing game.

Excluding sacks & sack yards we're averaging 6.3 ypc on the year and have only lost 36 yards on 224 rushing attempts this year. Pretty good.

Yeah gotta agree with you on this here.

I think the I gotta with either the Rivers injury, the quicker pace of the game, and the defense knowing were gonna be throwing it often, so DL just worry about the QB.

The counter argument is, well how come our run game ain't crazy good? And that's a good effing question. The answer usually lies in, we pretty well run tow run plays, inside zone and zone ugly. So really it's a combination of the variables above, at least to me.

Appreciate the break down. To the naked eye and without the stats they looked solid to me, not perfect though. We were also down our starting left tackle, wonder how many of those additional 2024 sacks were from that position alone. But fair assessment, overall I think you're grades are pretty spot on, though I'd give the TE's an A-, think they've blocked fairly well and have made an impact receptions wise.

I was bordering on A- for the TEs, honestly.

B- is a pretty good grade. How would you grade last years O line? An A? Btw I agree I've always been in the opinion our 2023 O line was better. Last year they were pretty much healthy all season and this year they were already banged up going into the Gators game and then we lost Rivers for a good min.

TVD made an elite OL look worse. Cam last yr may have been sacked only 3x all last yr. They were for sure an “A” last season. Cohen & Lee were beast; still surprised Cohen wasn’t drafted.

2 of the sacks last week were a result of the online getting smoked by a 4 man rush. Cam does a great job and he really only gets sacked on dead to rights plays. Online hasn't been elite in pass pro the last 3 weeks.

I was hoping both guys would return. At least the fall off isn't as bad as we see at the safeties position. You wouldn't happen to have how many sacks Matt Lee gave up in 2023? Carpenter already given up 2 sacks so far

cam has been sacked 11 times on 246 attempts ... and 2-3 of those sacks should have been throw aways

did a good job of managing losing your starting left tackle game 1

also, love kicking rivers inside to continue the development of bell ... slows mccoy's development a bit ... but both bell and mccoy still get important reps

i think our line is about to really take off as long as we remain healthy

He and Mario owed us since Mirabal never cut his arms and legs off like he promised

He’s paid off his debt

Exactly. The line was notably better last year.

Cam is masking some of their errors, while "causing" more by holding on to the ball longer than TVD could ever do.

Ultimately, its working fine.

Imagine if we had Cohen back at LG this year, and Rivers at LT was healthy through the year...

I wonder when we can expect Okunlola to be a consistent starter?
not sure it's gone happen, unless he makes a huge step ... looks like we're gonna hang our hat on mauigoa ... then sell the development of cooper, mccoy, and bell
