Mike Lombardi, former Raiders executive and new North Carolina GM, takes shot at Mario Cristobal

Cristobal has his gameday issues.
No one can deny this, not even the most fervent UM fan.
So alot of the criticism is fair game.
But for someone who is not a UM fan, who represents another college football
program no less, to openly mock an opposing coach like Cristobal is an unprofessional
piece of horse *****.
For all of his faults, he has run clean programs everywhere he has worked at and, for the
most part, his players have respected him, if not enjoyed playing for him.

For those who are OK with opposing coaches running their mouths against MC, who openly
call themselves "Cane" fans, go f(ornicate) yourselves.

There's something about Mario that turns aloooooot of ppl off. You see it with Fran Brown, some of the whispers about boosters being fed up with him, Venables taking shots out of nowhere, his exit from FIU.

I'm not saying that as a good or bad thing. It's just very apparent alot of grown folks do not fw him for whatever reason.
The Venables thing is especially hilarious to look back on.

"A lot of different ways to finish 6-7" and he seems determined to show us all of those different ways every season.

I agree for the most part. But I think Mario declaring Florida to be his after winning the UF and FSU games is kinda the same thing. And it opens him up to criticism when it's proven not to be the case.

He said this after beating FAMU, USF in addition to UF and FSU.
He was not specifically calling out Golesh, Norvell, Napier or any of the coaches.
Slight difference.

No, it’s 2017 all over again if we go 7-6 next year. Most important is we follow up with another competitive 10 win plus season in 2025
Both are still possible. I am planning on attending the game, so obviously I HOPE your right...
I would like to see a repeat of our WV win. Citrus Bowl game with one of our all time best QBs under center.

I need some of whatever you are smoking. This is one of the dumber takes I've ever read. Mario isn't close to perfect, but he has recruited 3 freshmen All-Americans in the past two years.

Can you name how many Dan Lanning has recruited?
Who are the three all-americans (not Freshman all Americans actual all-americans) from the high school ranks that he recruited?

This. He made a big (and ill-advised) statement after the FSU game when Miami hadn't really accomplished anything under his regime. Therefore, it's fair to mock him. You make big fist pounding declarations like that after you actually win a championship not beat a 2-10 team, Caveman!

There were three underclassmen on the All American teams in total.

Is the expectation that we should have multiple underclassmen on the All-American teams every season or are you just moving the goal posts to fit your delusional narrative?

I agree it's classless but that doesn't make it untrue. Even as a recruiter, Mario's hit rate of high school recruits isn't great. The only difference makers in three years here have been Frederique, Bain, Fletcher, Mauigoa, and Horton. Lyle could be elite. Bissante has been inconsistent. Cooper and Bell on the o-line are just okay. I'm sorry but that's not good enough. The player evaluations and development of players are still p*ss poor. I think there needs to be a true GM that takes that away from Cristobal completely so he can focus exclusively on gameday prep and becoming a better coach.

Again, a personal attack to mask the fact that you have no answer to my question. Focus on the substance of my point and not on me. I'll ask again, who are these alleged three all-americans that he recruited and developed from high school in three years as head coach here? This is declaration that YOU made. I'm simply asking you to name them.

I said three freshman All-Americans, you moved the goal posts. Mario has had two full recruiting classes and I pointed out that virtually zero underclassmen make the All-American teams.

If your benchmark for development and recruiting success is multiple All-Americans, that is fine, you just might never end up satisfied with any coach, let alone Mario.

This.

This is one of those “I can talk **** about my sister but YOU can’t ****” moments.

Any Cane fan who doesn’t understand this theory ain’t a Cane fan.

This is the something

When he was at Oregon and Bama everyone loved him.

Alright fine then. Freshman all Americans if that is your standard. Bain regressed from year one to year two. Would you not agree? Frederique showed promise but got battered by Syracuse, but he is a freshman, that happens. So I am not losing sleep over Frederique over one bad performance. The one you can definitively point to is Mauigoa who is legit at RT. You have a whopping three to four players who are good to elite in three years here. What about the rest of his full classes here (2022 and 2023)? Let's take a look at the so-called "ace" recruiter, shall we?

2022 (16 commits)
Entered the portal after accomplishing nothing:
Khamauri Rogers
Cyrus Moss
Jaleel Skinner
Nyjalik Kelly
Chris Graves
Trevante Citizen
Jacurri Brown

Accomplished nothing or are liabilities but no portal yet:

Markeith Williams
Jaden Harris (Need I say more?)
Matthew McCoy

Average to good:

Bissante
Cooper
Isaiah Horton

2023 (21 commits):

Done nothing:

Kinsler
Tinilau
Pulliam
Horton
Bobby Washington
Robby Washington (portal)
Tripp (portal)
Bryant
Okunlola
Stafford (portal)
Acheampong (portal?)
Johnson (portal)
Wayne (portal)

Some promise, but too early to tell:

R. Williams
D. Brown
Aguirre
E. Williams (Looking for QB upgrades in the portal still)
D. Joyce (punter/kicker)

Studs:

Fletcher
Bain
Mauigoa

2024 is too early to say one way or the other, but I believe Frederique is a stud.

What I just listed, simply isn't good enough to be a true title contender. No emotion involved. Simply data and facts.

(Now back to my opinion) So we know Mario is a poor game day coach like Butch Davis was;therefore, you have to have an elite eye for talent like Butch did or a generational qb (Ward) to be anything more 6-6, 7-5, 8-4 here. This is why I said that Mario has already peaked here if he is going to be in charge of everything. This season is as good as it will get. And that's not good enough, imo.

It’s called jealousy

Exactly - if he had beaten a team Lombardi was involved with and said something you could kind of understand...
