***Miami vs. No. 1 Tennessee GAME THREAD***

Game thoughts:
-we showed flashes but nothing more
-99 needs to start at the 1. Slide Pack to the 2 and be done with it
-speaking of 2, Johnson looked like he had a thumb taped in the second half. Regardless, he's nothing more than a slow Sam
-I can live with Austin. He's at least trying
-we are playing hide and seek with guys like Matt and Blackmon. Of the two, Blackmon looks checked out. Hope I'm wrong
-Djobet needs to start dressing in sweats on the bench. I don't understand what he brings

This is a team playing checkers not chess. Season looks lost. May as well play the young guns

I haven’t watched much what’s the deal with Bethea? I thought he looked like a can’t miss prospect
So did Earl Timberlake in HS. Some ratings had him as a 5 star too. With High School grads, no such thing as a can't miss player.

We played North Florida in past seasons. Did we try to recruit Chaz Lanier out of the Portal? Just wondering.

Timberlake has been playing well for Bryant. Of course, that statement comes with an inherent microscope

This is now bad basketball.
We get behind early in every game. Even when we close the gap it never feels like we will even have the lead much less win.
It feels like L does not have an answer.

Exactly-

7 straight losses -

17 straight losses to power 4 opponents over the last 2 years-

AD, should force him to resign after the season but, it won’t happen.

Our future seems to possibly rise with Divine Bethea and Austin. I'd like to see them start every game and get maximum minutes, augmenting with Cleveland or Pack or whomever can play hard and true (or big)...

It's going to take Coach L keeping Pack and Cleveland (or others) from being the target playmaker. Give the ball to these young guys who can make things happen (drive and shoot). Hope they get the kinks out, mature, and with coaches' confidence, not get carried away or let adversity suck them under so their dry spells and mishaps are minimized.

If the vets don't approve, tuff love benching, good inspired coaching, whatever, just dont let them rule the roost.

Whatever happens this offseason, I just hope we can keep Divine and Swartz long term. They are a perfectly complementary duo- they both have good size and strength, they both care, Divine drives and distributes while Swartz spreads the floor and creates late in the clock.

Portal around those two with real role players. Guys like Blackmon, Bethea, Kidd and- as much as we love him- Pack are just scorers. Our best teams had a couple scorers and a bunch of guys who knew their roles.

It feels like we just added talent this offseason without building a cohesive unit.

I’ll be honest. I wondered if Divine’s ability to get by his man early in the year was just a product of playing lesser teams with lesser athletes. Seeing him do it tonight was an eye opener. He has to play.

Also liked seeing Johnson-Arigu get more run. His energy was infectious in the high school games I watched, I think that’s something this team needs.

He’s our only guy that has any juice off his first step. One of maybe 2 or 3 that can create and distribute off the bounce

You’d think L would’ve figured out what works and what doesn’t by now, but he’s still messing around with different rotations every game and hasn’t figured out that this team needs to go small and embrace the freshmen guards.

Divine absolutely has to be the starting PG going forward. Continue to elevate Schwartz’s role. Bethea has been an epic disappointment so far, but it’s too soon to give up on him. Have to play him more than 8 minutes a game.

No more Kidd and Johnson together. Pick one or the other depending on matchups. Only spot minutes for Staton McCray. Reduce Pack’s minutes considerably and have him play solely off the ball. No more PT for Djobet, he’s truly horrendous. And I’m not sure what to do with Cleveland and Blackmon at this point.

What’s crazy is L’s best teams have had zero depth, sometimes rotating just 6 or 7 guys. Yet this team plays 10+ guys, and it’s not working at all. L needs to reduce the rotation significantly, for the sake of cohesion at the least. I’m not sure we’ll see more wins this way, but might as well ride with the young guys and stop rewarding some of the half assed veterans on this team.

call it dramatic but I really feel that L refusing to go away from pack as the primary ball handler is one of the most incompetent coaching decisions I have ever seen on the hardwood. Total refusal for 2 years when we’ve been screaming for it.

I get it we’re not at practice I really do, but we’ve ******* lost 14 straight p4 games and now 7 straight on the year. You literally have nothing to lose but yet we still are forced to have our eyes bleed and watch Pack be our primary ball handler

We’ve seen atrocious coaching decisions at miami across all 3 sports but I’m telling you this is at the top for me
