This season would be much better served with a big ******* asterisk next to it than what is about to/has been transpire. Play Dewan. Literally nothing to lose

No dept at all the team just got tired. Don’t have a clue why he’s redshirting couple players. Sure could use them now...

Poor free throw shooting hurts; going cold for the last 10 minutes of the game hurts... But man, the worst part of this for me is that NC State got offensive boards on half of their missed shots.

Welp. Great effort. Going to be a long ACC season with the lack of depth.

Make a decent % from the FT line and this would have been a W. Tough loss.

As Consigliere pointed out, FT shooting was brutal but ... outside of that, we might not play this well again offensively all season.

That's definitely true for the first 3/4 of the game. Good shooting and limited turnovers. The last ten minutes was ugly on the offensive end though. Missed several threes in a row; Lykes missed a layup; Johnson gets blocked on the most important possession of the last minutes. Kind of ended up balancing out. 45% overall and 40% from deep seems like numbers we'll be able to hit from time to time. The turnovers were low though and I'm sure that number will be higher in most games.

That's what tired legs and cramps will do to you.

Honestly don't know how many games we'll have as good of a chance to win. I wouldn't have predicted a win before the game, but it was there for the taking. Not confident about many (any) games on the schedule. Wake, GT, and Pitt at home? Not going to be many other opportunities for wins.

Yep, playing pure garbage really helps. Dewan would have helped, Deng Gak would have helped. Miami needs someone that can contribute. They don't need just a body. Miami needs someone that can take up minutes, and be a passable ACC player. McGusty, if he was eligible would be the kind of guy Miami could plug in. I don't see anyone else that would be of help right now. Maybe you could get some "Don't ***** up too badly" minutes out of Miller, but even that may be too much to ask from him. It's frustrating, because this team showed tonight that they can give a team like NC State all they can handle. Reminds me of the 2013 squad that fought like ****, but just didn't have enough talent to get over the hump.

Die you home dog die. Die you home dog die.

There was one guy in Las Vegas who used to hang out at the Imperial Palace sportsbook 15-20 ago and matter of factly repeat that sentence night after night. It was amazing how frequently the small home underdogs he bet against would quit on demand during crunch time. He had a great knack for identifying the home dogs that were troubled and outmanned, and simply given too much credit for the home court.

I thought about that guy tonight as soon as I sat down. How could the Canes be given full home court allotment for that game? No band. No student section. Late arriving small crowd.

The team somehow had more offensive energy than all season. But it felt so fragile. Izundu had to make sure he didn't pick up fouls. Nobody could afford fouls. We got the benefit of a doubt with the referees all night long. Very rare that a conference game unfolds with the underdog in the double bonus both halves before the favorite ever reaches the single bonus. And especially when that underdog is being outmanned on the boards so severely.

Basically the Canes created their own upset opportunity with so much determination, the referees aided their cause, but the free throw shooting helped keep down the margin, before the inevitable collapse.

Johnson missed 3 of 4 free throws in one stretch late in the first half then followed with another miss later. D.J. didn't play as many minutes as I expected. But he also contributed with a missed free throw. Then he had a key late open miss on a 3 pointer that the Canes desperately needed. A guy like that who is otherwise so limited and one dimensional absolutely has to hit that shot in crunch time.

No alma mater after the game. Now that is pathetic. First time I've seen that. Canes under Larranaga now have developed a habit of quckly walking off the court after a home defeat, and not waiting for the alma mater. Low class compared to prior tendency. But at least that alma mater has always been played. We had two older couples in my section who are all alums and they were so miffed at the lack of the alma mater they said they planned to complain. I didn't blame them. If you are going to tout the new football coach during the game then don't give away one of your traditions later.
