Miami vs. Indiana State (3rd Place Game...730 Eastern)

I'm in shock. We played horribly, and choked away a game we had numerous chances to put away. That said, the refs also handed them the game. The entire tournament the refs screwed Miami. Some of the non-calls today were atrocious. Yes, they missed 2 or so against them, but they missed 10+, including the guy taking out Larkin, which was much as a flagrant as the one on Kadji. Up 9 and the ball and we let them go on a run. Up 7 and we get 3 shots and then they go on a run to send it to OT. Brown bricks 2 FTs that could have almost iced it. Unreal.

The team didn't play like they cared, which is absurd. You'd think a veteran team, that missed the tournament last year by 1 game, that already went through uninspired play at the beginning of the season, and was coming off of an embarrassing blowout loss in a "statement" game would come out fired up. I don't get it. If you don't want to play, give up your scholarship and do something else. I'm sick of this crap. Golden is dealing with it in football, and Coach L is dealing with it in basketball.

ISU played a horrible game, shot like 25% for most of the game, and we were only up 3-7 or so the entire second half. The way they played, we should have won by 20, even without Reggie. This is a team from a good mid-major conference, but they're not Wichita State or Creighton or Butler. They're an NIT team at best, probably a CBI or whatever the heck it's called team. Bad, bad, bad loss.

As for the tournament, no this does not mean we won't make the tournament, but it means our margin of error will be a lot, and I mean a lot smaller in ACC play (and we have to beat LaSalle next week). We erased FGCU with Michigan State, we didn't need to erase Arizona, but we need to erase this one. We can't and won't get in the NCAA tourney just beating the teams we're "supposed" to beat in the ACC. We're going to have to beat Duke or NC State or UNC (who isn't really that great of a win this year). You get one mulligan, we had that with FGCU. This means we absolutely cannot lose to a Boston College or Wake Forest, or heck, even Florida State this year, who is horrible.

Our RPI will still be good, but this hurts, it hurts a lot. As for the committee taking into account us not having Reggie, I really don't think they will, or not much. They didn't take into account that he missed 9 games last year and were only 5-4 in those 9, and 13-7 with him, including 9-7 in the ACC, tying for 4th. What makes anyone think they'll give us a pass or put an * by this loss? They won't, trust me, they won't.

I can't believe I'm going to have to stew about this loss for over a week now.

I can't understand how people can say the refs screwed us or handed them the game. The refs were bad, both ways.

Easy. Every single time Kadji got the ball and was anywhere near the basket, he was fouled. They called maybe 3 or 4. Larkin and Scott were mugged on numerous drives, and I don't remember more than 1 or 2 calls. They called ticky tack fouls on us, and didn't let us play physical. I usually hate when people complain about the refs, but I've complained this entire tournament. It was atrocious.

Every losing team's fans in the history of basketball always complain about the refs. Miami had plenty of chances to win this game. They didn't. Time to reset expectations for the team.

doesn't mean there is no merit to the complaints. just because we played an awful game and deserved to lose without the refs doesn't mean they were horrendous. trust me, I'm more upset with the team than the refs, and if you read my original post you'd see 90% of it is about the team, not the refs.

We STILL don't have a closer. Haven't had a guy I trust to make a big shot at the end of a game since Jack. Teams without closers go nowhere.

Whatever.

This feels a lot like the Minn loss last year.

The team needs to show up for each and every game or shut the **** up.

Blame the refs on an OT loss?

you don't ever blame the refs on a close game.

we shouldn't be in a position to let a couple calls change the outcome of the game.

hit a thee, make your FT's and it isn't even a game. not the refs fault, 100% Miami

Huh? Actually the exact opposite is true. The closer the game, the more impact the refs can have. You don't blame the refs in a 20 point loss, but in a game where 1 call can change the outcome?

And either way, I didn't blame the refs. I spent most of post talking about us anyway. We lost the game, but those were 3 of the most one sided games not against Duke or UNC I've seen in a long time

I get what ur saying dude, but good teams and good fans don't blame the refs on a loss. If we execute and play at least somewhat to our capabilities, we blow them out of the water.

WE didn't execute so its our fault we loss, not the refs. you can't put yourself in the situation to allow the refs to have an impact.

Look at what I added to my post above. I blamed us plenty. We deserved to lose. Doesn't change the fact the refs were horribly one sided, and I'm getting sick of Miami never getting the calls.
