Miami transfer guard Jalil Bethea commits to Alabama

I'm not disappointed in the least. It takes a special breed of jacka** to get on L's bad side, and Bethea did it within weeks of arriving on campus. He lacks maturity and I don't think a first time HC would be able to deal with Bethea's issues. Oats can take this on, if Jalil doesn't want to defend(which he doesn't), nor fill a defined role, he can easily move past him, because of the depth of their roster. Miami had to deal with his crap this season, and honestly, I didn't see a 5 star talent. I saw a dude that likely looked great in AAU ball, where no one plays defense and basketball IQ is a rumor.

I believe in basketball they should really lower it down. These kids can go to the league right out of high school and many have succeeded doing so. 10-15 5 stars is probably the sweet spot in hoops.

Ridiculous that bethea and the Timberlakes of the world were regarded as 5 stars

Yes, but the other side of the coin is certain posters supporting a 10-year extension for Jai because we got 3 recruits in 3 days. When we only need 10 or 12 more.

Just FYI - Bethea didn’t get on L’s bad side.

Bethea had plenty to learn and mature like almost every freshman… but he wasn’t on L’s bad side.

Ls handling of him indicates otherwise. It was obvious that L was getting tired of him, or maybe he was more a symptom of a larger disease. Either way, him leaving doesn’t really bother me.

He was just a freshman who had to learn and mature to reach his potential at this level. It wasn’t like he “used” an “injury” to sit out and get another year…

The biggest challenge surrounding Bethea was pressure associated with not getting a return on the NIL investment… but that was external and certainly not Bethea’s fault.

I’m not sure any of that matters. Apparently Jai wanted him or Able and they both said nope.
