Miami targeting Houston's Zac Etheridge for DB coach

And for those that are keeping track or were wondering,

Houston was 12th in Pass Defense last season.

The only other titles they could give him would be Co-DC, or Defensive Pass Game Coordinator.

Idk what the plan is, but if they do bring in another DB Coach, it will just depend on who it is.

ZE can Coach either CB's or Safeties, but he's better as a Safety Coach, it's what he did at Houston (the first go round) & Auburn.

If it were me, I'd pair Etheridge with a guy like Sammy Joseph to help keep the Louisiana pipeline open, but that's just me, idk nothing.

Apologizing in advance because I know how the board reacts both extremes when certain names are brought up…But what about Etheridge Safety (and authority over whole secondary), and DVD corners?

Zac Etheridge specifies in Safety Coaching.

If we brought in another DB Coach it would be for someone who specifies in CB's.

Rather than have 1 guy try to cover the entire Secondary, it’s easier to have 2 guys just run their rooms & correspond with the DC.

CB's & Safeties have different responsibilities & it’s a lot more difficult to teach both groups from a technical standpoint if you don't have the experience doing both.

It makes more sense to have 1 LB Coach & 1 DL Coach. You don't need a DT & DE Coach, they have same responsibilities & nearly the same assignments.
I thought the same thing last week but I went and looked at other staffs and apparently it’s common these days.

When I played football, one coach had the entire secondary. I would think CBs and Safeties need to be on the same page. Guess this some new trend.
