what '17 kids does southridge have left that we'd want? I know Gibson is his own story and davis/gamble are already at UF

This shouldn't just be about Southridge. If it is then it's a really dumb hire because in two years none of that team will know him. This hire only makes sense if this dude has a lot of local juice.

If Davis isn't enrolled in classes, then he should be able to get him.

Franchise I'm with you if this guy is the **** he must deliver immediately,buy this move has been talked about publicly for well over a week so it must have been in the works for a while which gave Coney enough time to work Davis and get him to swicth over.Davis been at UF today tells us that it didn't work.IMO this and Gibson is not good start.

Gibson I don't really care about. I think Rick saw the opportunity to drop him for playing footsies with Oregon, and he jumped on it.

Davis though. That one concerns me. Cooney has known for a couple weeks he'd be coming here. He should have been able to make that happen.

Agreed on both accounts. Davis is the only official "miss" to UF that bothers me, and he's already in Gainesville and likely enrolled, since classes started January 4th. Maybe he was skeptical the Cooney hire would go through? Dunno.

I get that we're hoping he lands us Pope in 2018, especially since Cooney was his OC, but I'm praying Cooney can help immediamente, with Henderson.

I think he is just saying we are making a desperation type move hiring Cooney because we are currently losing the recruiting battles against UF. A shot at miami, not at cooney.

Guys, I've posted about this multiple times over the last 6 months. Florida hired the southridge basketball coach. He's why the Ridge kids (and Henderson) are favoring UF, not Shannon. Cooney v Heron!

yeah, that dude has been mentioned before on this board. From what I gather, though, Cooney is not just a Southridge guy - he's a 7x7 guy that supposedly has relationships with all sorts of kids, not just SR.

Pope and that other kid from Peter's vid the other day both mentioned Cooney and how they wouldn't be where they were without him.

Miami is set to add local coach David Cooney to their football support staff, as he will join the program as an Offensive Quality Control Analyst.

Cooney was previously the offensive coordinator for the 2016 8A state champion Southridge Spartans and was at Coral Gables high school prior to that. Cooney has also made is mark in south Florida football over the past few years as one of the architects of the Florida Fire 7-on-7, whose team produces multiple top-level recruits each year.

The hire is expected to be made official and announced this week.

if it was about recruiting keep ice harris. btw, northwestern, and central was his old schools, so i hope its more than that.

Ice isnt plugged in like that. He has respect as a coach but thats it. Cooney works with 7on7s too so he has had exposure to more guys than just the ones at his school.

The way I see it, we have to overcome the stigma of 10 years of poison induced by Shannon and Golden. They turned us into the laughing stock of the power5... hence the inverted U thrown in our faces. Richt and crew are having to rebuild not only the culture but perceptions. I like what we are doing and IMO this hire is a great one in helping in that regard.
