Yes, I have known it is the Research Triangle for many years now. Just thought the UNC and Duke sides were more pronounced. lol

They are all pretty much integrated now just NCSU lacks the med school.

Every member of the B1G is an AAU member, except Nebraska. Nebraska was a member when they joined, but lost it in 2011.

AAU member ship is invite only, based on the breadth and quality of university programs of research and graduate education, as well as undergraduate education. The association ranks its members using four criteria: research spending, the percentage of faculty who are members of the National Academies, faculty awards, and citations.

Miami became a member in 2023. This chart affirms that trajectory. The hope is this will make Miami an attractive option for further conference expansion of the B1G.

I had heard conflicting info (in the past) about how close/not-close NC State was to AAU consideration. I work with a guy who did his undergrad at NC State, so I hear some positives from him.
