Miami is tied for last in the country in fumble recoveries

Defense needs to make it an emphasis of attacking the ball, punching it out, and when getting to the QB smashing his arm.

Creating these turnovers would go along way in covering up the weaknesses of this defense

Miami is tied with FSU and a bunch of other bad teams with only 1 fumble recovery.

Georgia created 3 strip sack fumbles against Texas in 1 game which kept them in the game even though their Qb threw 3 INTs
Miami literally had a forced fumble returned for a touchdown against UL, and defense still got smoked. **** post.

Can you explain this?
Yes, because it's obvious that the defense forcing fumbles that the offense recovers is way better than fumble recoveries by the defense.

Problem is when you put emphasis on punching the ball away kids start doing that and forget about tackling the guy….if it happens in the process of the tackling the guy hard and we get a fumble great but I don’t want kids punching at the ball or grabbing at the ball instead of tackling the runner/wr correctly and have a back/wr break away and go for 70.

This might be one of the least stats I’m worried about.Forcing fumbles are great when it’s done because you knocked the snot out of the guy with the ball and knocked him out and he lost the ball but putting emphasis at grabbing at the ball or punching at the ball can lead to worse techniques than we already have….something we cannot afford.

We haven't been good at generating/forcing/ turnovers since 2017, especially in regards to fumble recoveries. I do feel like our defense is in a position every game, dating back several seasons, to recover a fumble, whether it be a forced fumble or just the opponent's offense coughing up the ball freely. Somehow, we have 4-5 guys around the ball, but they still find a way to recover.

This last one (Popo's against UL) felt like that football was just sitting there in the end zone for several minutes. Like time had stopped. I thought no way are we going to get to that before someone from UL pounces back on the ball. Outstanding play by Popo to just dive on the ball and not try to get too fancy.

I agree but this team has trouble tackling players let alone trying to knock the ball out
