Pro Football Focus has named the Miami Hurricanes football program as the top winner of the transfer portal this offseason.

Miami overhauled their secondary by adding two new coaches (Will Harris and Zac Etheridge) along with blue-chip Portal defensive backs such as Xavier Lucas (#1 CB), Zechariah Poyser (#2 S), Ethan O'Connor (#9 CB), Charles Brantley (#11 CB) and Emmanuel Karnley (#12 CB).

Miami recruited the top transfer portal QB in the country, Carson Beck...

Our ability to use the portal is becoming more focused every time. We have improved markedly in this area over the last 4 cycles(2 a year). Coming into the last portal cycle we were super focused and just as aggressive. Getting players like Poyser, Lucas, Brantley, O'Conner and Karnley cannot be overstated. The very same can be said of QB Carson Beck as those additions have considerably raised our floor in terms of win total next season. David Blay at DT could be just as significant and the additions of WR Daniels, TE Bauman and C Brockermeyer were very solid.

The next couple of months will be very telling as this Spring Practice will be critically important in letting our coaches know where we stand at each position group and what exactly we need to add in the portal in order to field the best team possible this fall. Who will step up at WR? Who among our young DL will take the next step? Who will be the next great pass rusher at DE? DT? Who will show out at LB? What about all that portal talent at CB? Who plays where and who starts? Who starts at Safety? TE? What role will Elija Lofton play? Does SJ Alofaituli get integrated into the running game with Lofton? Does Jordan Lyle seize the RB1 title? Where does Pringle end up on the depth chart? Do Tommy Kinsler and Samson Okunlola take the next step? I literally can't wait.

Offseason National Champs again!

Yeah baby!
That's funny and I absolutely understand where you are coming from and I'm certainly not arguing with you but I don't see it that way. I just enjoy the process of and get excited about adding talent. At the end of the day Mario is responsible for putting it all together and I'll be right there to hold his feet to the fire should he underachieve. I've been sharply critical of him for his shortcomings and bone headed mistakes since he's been here. I've also praised him for making necessary changes and improving on weaknesses. I never deluded myself into thinking that this would be a quick fix when he took over. No no no. This was always going to take several years because Mario wasn't a finished product as a head coach. This was going to take a bit of trial and error both in his coaching methods and in assembling the best possible staff.

This season is going to tell us if we have established an offensive system that elite high school recruits particularly QB and WR buy into and if we will be able to leverage that success into recruiting elite OL on a yearly basis.

We will also learn a great deal about the Corey Hetherman and the defensive staff. Corey Hetherman has such a great opportunity to turn this defense into a strength and make a name for himself in the process. He has the talent at every level of the defense to get it done. After adding a few key pieces in the post spring portal my guess is that he will have the players necessary to craft a nasty front seven to go with a potentially excellent secondary. My guess is that given the staff he now has that Hetherman will do exactly that!

As far as Mario is concerned this season is crucial and he knows it. He must win 10+ games, preferably win the ACC and he must make the playoffs. There is no excuse not to. The rooster is more than talented enough, he has the QB and both sides of the trenches. Whatever pieces we are missing we will acquire in the spring portal. After that, Mario needs to get out of his own way and just win.
