Sources tell CanesInSight.com that Mark Richt has hired Matt Doherty, Michigan’s current Recruiting Coordinator, in the same role. Doherty was the former Assistant Director of Football Operations and Director of Player Personnel at Miami from 2011-late 2014.

The 30-year-old Doherty is a 2008 graduate of Miami’s school of business administration. He began his career in 2009 as a scouting assistant with the New England Patriots.

Eric Josephs and Jorge Baez will remain on staff.

I knew Matt while I was at UM - super hard worker, very intelligent, good football/talent IQ and he has a genuine love for Miami football. Him leaving the way he did under Golden was a true sign that Al and staff were a bad fit for UM.

Hairball doesn't need Doherty anymore --- he's found a better way to get top recruits ---- HIRE THEIR FATHER OR MOTHER! (Gary, Bush, Lyons)

One thing I love about Richt so far--he's nto messing around. He's going after the best staff member and the best players available. I don't think the previous staffs envisioned Miami as an elite football program (plus they sucked)--Richt seems to have that vision and has made some nice moves so far in the support staff areas. This is the stuff that sets the "haves" apart from the "have nots."

Could someone explain what a recruiting coordinator actually does?
Is he a talent scout or a bureaucratic scheduler of visits, gatherer of film, etc...? Or both?

We are about to create the magic that was the 2011-2014 recruiting classes!!!

I would just like to add my position on this whole too-many-linebackers situation. Give me Wilder, Steed, Miller.

You cant even judge the classes. It starts with coaching. Any defensive croot gets a pass from me and i apologize personally

What makes him so special. I know it's great for us but I just want to know what you guys see that makes him an elite hire

Proud St. John's Prep. graduate here. It's good to see another Eagle doing well in football.

St. John's Prep is the cradle of coaches going back to Fred Glatz through Brian Kelly and Bill O'Brien.

Good article, guy has the tools and has worked with some superb people, have to be excited with the current staff, glad the trash crew is gone, and trust in Richt.
