Miami Flo's Predictions

What top program doesn’t use the portal regularly at this point? There’s way more that do that dont. Lets look at the top 10

Oregon. Osu. Texas. Penn state.Tennessee. Notre Dame. Bama before and after saban left. Ole miss. Georgia. Michigan…There’s more but yea all of those teams got a bunch from the portal

Maybe the negative connotation with it is because yall attach it to deion and norvell, its many other examples to look at so why focus on the those two rather than the top programs?

Nobody is saying get your entire roster out of the portal but it’s shouldn’t be looked at as an either or. It falls under the talent acquisition umbrella so looking at the portal and hs recruiting as a either or is wrong

Most of those teams i named also have also had elite hs recruiting classes for years and they still attack the portal. Its clear the blueprint today is there should be money and efforts spent on both if we are truly trying to be an elite program again.
By now we should be taking single digits out the portal. But instead we’re looking at 15 plus because of misses on the trail and lack of development on defense

Define “a lot” as far as using the portal? OSU, Georgia and bama do not use the portal that much. Do they get 2-3 guys per year? Yeah but not the amount that everyone else gets. Texas is next - they don’t get a ton of portal guys. Oregon uses it a lot.

2024 Portal Players

OSU: 9

Georgia: 9

Alabama: 14

Texas: 10

Miami: 13

Now, we definitely need to go for high impact players so we don't end up like FSU.

Everyone uses the portal but need to use it for top end talent only.

Next years needs.

QB
(2) OL
Depending on Mesidor (1) DE (1) DT
(1) LB
(2) CB
(1) S
(1) WR

There is 10 right there. I could see 8-12 transfers being needed.

Everyone with a brain can agree the team needs to be high school recruiting centric while also continuing to fill holes and create competition through the portal.

Injuries, hitting ceilings, NIL disputes, maturity issues, fit, competition, academics … lots of reasons why half the kids don’t work out even at the best programs. We’ll need 10 this year plus replacements for anyone transferring out. Probably need 5-10 every year even as our high school recruiting classes continue to be top 10.

Correct but only 3. Uga may have 1-2. Others have 5-7.

That’s because they have all recruited at elite levels for 20 years straight.

Miami is digging out of a massive hole from a talent standpoint.

Saban just nailed the portal and why ALL teams have holes on their roster.

This is becoming closer to nfl with all the roster movement. Top recruits leave after a year or two cause they aren’t starting. That’s creating major depth issues and building of a team.

Roster construction is a constant battle now with the portal.

Yes agree but that’s a totally separate discussion. Talent discussion comes up and the reason we’re going back to the portal for many players is that we haven’t had top 3 recruiting classes over the last 10 years like osu, bama, and uga had. That’s evidenced by the fact that they only have 2-3 portal starters.

Also need to account for guys transferring out. Thats where your taking your depth development guys, not just impact players

People shouldn't give a **** about high portal acquisition as long as the talent you bring doesn't pollute your locker room & culture with that bs mercenary mentality. It's the staffs responsibility to ensure the right guys are selected and when that's done correctly there's almost no other downside to aggressive portal strategy.

Ryan Rodriquez being out for the whole season doesn't help. That only leaves the true freshman Nico. Not getting Connor Lew set us back a few years at that position

Rodriquez was starting LG before he got hurt so I don’t think he was spending much practicing C. Supposedly he is going to come and play this season and it wouldn’t hurt to get some game reps at LG and C if opportunity arises but alas the defense ******* sucks and each game will be close.

Next year, D$ has said the coaches feel that SJ has the ability to come snd start as a true freshman. That might be asking a lot since he isn’t the biggest guy. Ideally, it would nice if we don’t have to spent resources on a transfer and can use those funds elsewhere.

By all indications the house settlement will go through and the scholarship limits will rise to 105. I hope to god we hit the DB market hard to the point of overkill format least for 1 season. Watching these mid week Mac games it is glaring how they can have safeties that are not out of position, can make open field tackles, and understand zone concepts. Go raid them.

Every smart team uses the portal just like every smart NFL does too. Yes build through HS recruiting but if premium difference makers at positions like QB, Dline, or oline you need to grab them while also filling in misses from the HS ranks… like corner
