Miami-Duke baseball

Been saying we should look elsewhere at hc for about 2 years now. If you can't consistently field a team that at least shows basic fundamentals on a regular basis such as: base running, routine fielding, etc. then you shouldn't be a coach anywhere. Pure and simple. This is D1 baseball with a storied history. Just my opinion.

We will eek out enough wins to get to a regional. We will proceed to commit a record number of fielding errors for an early exit.

This seasons scripts written. U can check out until later in the season.

No we won't get a regional. We will be playing in some regional at the University of Lagos, or Gu7am, but we ain't gettin' any regional

As someone who used to be a diehard Canes baseball fan, but now just really checks the scores without following the team, what's changed? Is it all Morris as some people say? Or is the talent down? I know the rule changes in college baseball have really hurt private schools, but others have found ways to still get top talent, like TCU, Vandy, Rice, etc. I know it has hurt some private schools like Tulane, who simply cannot get the same players they got from the late 90s-mid 2000s. What's the deal in Coral Gables?

So was a season like 2008 due to great talent? Meaning, was the talent so good that even Morris couldn't keep them from winning the ACC and getting to Omaha?

Same here. I can barely stand to read the scores anymore.... the tired old man needs to be shown the door

.... and need to bring in some young coach with energy and something to prove.

Same thing seems to be going on in New Orleans where fans have turned on Rick Jones after 20 years (no NCAA appearances since 2008). Interestingly enough, Jones was Morris #1 assistant at GT before Morris went to Miami and Jones to Tulane.

His interview after the shalackling against Stony Brook was enough for me to say , "show this man the door." He had no answers except I wanna go home and leave me alone.

The program has been spiraling downward for 5 years now to the point that we are not only uncompetitive against FSU and UF, but we are uncompetitive against ACC bottom feeders like Duke. Last year's regional embarrassment was probably enough to make a change, but Morris' history earned him 1 more year IMO. Last night was the last straw. UM should never be dominated (at home no less) by Duke. He needs to go now. My fear is that Morris, just like Bowden, doesn't accept that he's the problem, and refuses to step down gracefully. Unfortunately, missing a regional might be the only thing to force Blake James' hand.

If the talent is down then that is all Morris as well. He's the one responsible for bringing in the talent so I don't understand the distinction. But yes the talent is way, way down.

again...he is relying on these 3rd level latino kids that were not good enough to get drafted out of HS...other schools go after kids that want to play baseball IN COLLEGE...not use a college for getting into the majors..sure we get a few like braub and alonzo and Jay..bit we used to go get great kids all over the country..

Our bull pen is horrible has been for years ( blame ortega) we have no pitchers that can throw over 90 mph and find the plate...the gators had guys that were juniors and seniors last year that were 6.3 and weighted 225lbs...we showed up with 5.8 160 lb kids that cant make a throw from SS or play 2nd base...

I think with MLB baseball having more and more leagues like the winter and Dominican teams.,kids are heading that direction from our area...kids are jumping to soccer or even lacrosse instead of playing BB in high school or even younger....I thing college base ball is doomed

Not defending Morris, but the new rules have made it harder for private schools to compete. Now, before you say what about TCU, Rice, Vandy, etc. I don't know the ins and outs of Miami's admissions and/or non-athletic scholarships, or even endowment, but I know for a fact Rice has some kind of "Hispanic" scholarship available to all students that the baseball team uses in the place of athletic scholarships. Other schools have creative ways to get past the 11.7 scholarships, etc.

We have an uphill battle being a private school but Arteaga has done nothing but butcher our pitching staff...never more glaringly then in 2008, when we wasted what has to be considered one of the most talented college baseball teams of all time because we ran out of pitching.

Morris is at fault for keeping Arteaga around, for not replacing DiMare's recruiting ability for the 4 years he was gone, and for being the infield coordinator for a consistently TERRIBLE infield. This **** has to get turned around, and that right quick, or he is going to find himself "retired" and replaced. I do not understand how for seemingly most of a decade we have not been able to consistently field an effing ground ball, nor do I find it a coincidence that every year we lose 2-3 of our main pitchers to a gruesome arm injury. It is quite frankly embarrassing.
