Some of you guys really need to learn how to separate what Golden says from reality. Of course the guy is going to try and stomp out the inferiority complex that has been hanging over the program for years now. Of course he'll say we should compete for every recruit regardless of what other schools are pursuing that player (because we can compete). The reality of scheduling is not what it once was.
The whole, "anyone, anytime, etc" thing is cute message board fodder. The reality of the situation is that maybe you should schedule one decent OOC game, but the other two or three should be cupcakes. You win your conference, you're in the BCS. If you are especially impressive while doing so, you might make it to the MNC. Unless you are in the SEC, you ain't doing much with one loss.
I'll second this statement.
Also, I'm all for playing anyone, any place, any time. HOwEVER, this is alo a different time, a different college football then we played in the 80s, 90s. The game has changed completely. Way more parity especially with the recruiting that has picked up (social media, camps, etc).
Lastly, it's the smart way to go. Look at the SEC. For the most part, there isn't a single school in the SEC except for lsu that plays a major non conference game during the season.
