Mayes working to become more physical

I was reading an ESPN article today and was surprised that by flipping that OG 'bama just passed us for ESPN 300 recruits. The funny thing is, after looking through the list of our ESPN 300 guys, many of the recruits I am most excited about aren't those guys but the Mike Smiths, Ryan Mayes, and Darrion Owens, and Juwon Youngs.

Owens has high first round ceiling if he works and keeps his nose clean. The Ogletree comp is dead on.

Dont see safety in this kid.

Dont care about his size.....but its never good to hear about a kid that is like 190 in high school...that they have to make or teach being physical.

That sh*t is a mindset....he is a big cb imo....which he does very well as he has ball skills and length.

Look at Brandon Meriweather in high school..dude was a dripping wet 175pds..and he was putting dudes on their AS$.

Kacy Rodgers is a plus size athlete...and he aint hitting sh*t.

I say keep Mayes @ CB and let him develop....coincidentally the only time Rodgers looks good is when he is covering over the slot as a cb....hmmm..

gogeta u make a good point but i cant compare him to KC Rodgers until i see if thats what he would look like as a safety on the field.... Deon Bush was called soft by some UM fans while he was in high school, so you never know.

Not every safety can hit hard either as long as you are tuff enough mentally to come up in run support and make the tackle then you can be good. Thomas Decoud for the Atlanta Falcons cant hit worth a **** (and i cant stand his *** personally) but he made the Pro Bowl last year.

Your right, people shouldn't right off a kid before he even gets on campus. If Mayes wants to get on the field early, he will learn to play physical or ride the bench like Rogers if he is too soft. He could make the 2 deep next year at safety with only Bush, Jenkins, & Carter returning. It would be much harder to make the 2 deep at corner.

no one wrote him off..i think he is a FIND @ cb. Just dont see the safety skills..he may show it this yr on film...........
