Max Wittek QB @ USC

Jeremiah Masoli, Jeff Hostetler, Jevan Snead, Garrett Gilbert, Brock Berlin and Troy Aikman

Past decade only. Masoli was booted from Oregon so he doesn't count.

Gilbert - Sucked
Snead - One good season and then he sucked

I didn't count Flacco or Devlin because they went down a level and should have dominated the way they did.

Garrett Gilbert didn't suck. During his senior year he put up 3500 Passing Yards, 21 TDs 7 ints and completed 66.5% of his passes. Not sure how that SUCKS.

Flacco went onto the NFL and is one of the highest paid QBs, he has a superbowl championship and is a darn good player.

At QB, kids are going to transfer a lot.

Sometimes the coaching changes and so does the scheme (Ryan Mallett), so it makes sense to go.

Sometimes the kid is a brat, who can't compete (Tate Forcier) and won't accomplish much.

Sometimes the kid get's beat out, transfers because he wants to start and goes on to have success (Joe Flacco).

One guy can play/start, you basically wait for an unknown opportunity that may never arrive. A kid may be content waiting and being on scholarship (Crow), no need to transfer because he may be simply content.

The bottom line is whether we (MIAMI) need help at the position.

Gilbert didn't do much against Houston or UCF at the end of the season, but that's fine. He can go on the list of decent transfers.

The point I am making, though, is that is it EXCEEDINGLY rare for a guy who transfers to be even decent.

Gilbert had a good season, he was a good transfer for SMU. Call him what you will.

I suppose it is rare but we're not in the BEST situation. I don't see how bringing someone with experience hurts even if only a backup. We have deadweight on the roster. Would you rather have Crow or Wittek?

This.

We're 1 Kevin Olsen injury in the Louisville game away from seeing Crow taking meaningful snaps.

That noted ... Wittek ain't coming.

It doesn't have to me Wittek, it could have been Matt Jockel or someone with experience.

We're in agreement. But the thread is about Wittek, thus my concluding statement.

My bad

This actually brings up an interesting conversation. Every time a QB that was highly ranked in high school decided to transfer, a sizable portion of this board wants them here.

I think that if a QB is transferring because he couldn't get playing time, 95% of the time he is a bust, but I am open to convincing.

So let's be objective: Name all the high profile transfer QB's in the past decade to go somewhere and actually make a difference.

DISCLAIMER: Don't say Cam Newton or Nick Marshall...they were both kicked out of school and did not transfer of their own volition.

Russ Wilson was a stud, Ryan Mallett threw for a ton of yards for Bobby Petrino (but then again I probably could too),Nick Foles was pretty solid at Arizona.

Tom Savage was mediocre as a 23 year old senior.

Mitch Mustain, Jake Heaps, Dayne Crist, Robert Marve, Tate Forcier, Sam Keller - Lolz

Jacoby Brissett, Gunner Kiel, Jacob Coker - Jury out

Who am I missing?

You bring up a good point... However I'll sort of lump Wilson and Mallet in with Cam and Marshall... Those two didn't steal anything or get in trouble but Wilson was an all-ACC performer at NCState racking up yards... Obrien was just dumb enough to push him out for "Lead Foot" Glennon... Mallet told Rich Rod he couldn't fit his spread read offense... If those two were out there I'll gladly take them... But I agree with you... Most qb transfers are busts...

Snead was horrible and overrated... He threw more pics than Jacory in 2009... Berlin gave us 1 good year... Gilbert was a late bloomer... He did well at SMU... It took him some time...

I'd rather roll with Kaaya. Olsen/Kaaya should be the future and the present. If we are going to win and win big we need good/great QB play. I'd rather have the ball in talents like Olsen/Kaaya then a stop gap less talented guy like Wittek.

What happens if a transfer gives us a better chance to win NOW and it has no impact on the development of Olsen/Kaaya in 2015?

He was overrated... He was terrible in 2009... He wasn't a good qb... He had size...

If Kaaya is better than the more experienced transfer, then he'll play. It's not an "either, or" ... It can be "both". We can get an experienced back-up in, allow them to compete with Kaaya and Olsen, have them all get better and develop, and play the best option ... Knowing there is a decent back-up if another injury occurs.

To me, having a more experienced transfer QB on the roster is an insurance policy for this season. And we need the policy to come due because Thompson, Dewey, and Ryan Williams are all unavailable to contribute to the football team, even though they are on scholarship.

And again ... The comparsion is Wittek (or another experienced transfer QB) versus Crow. If it's Wittek, then I say yes. If it's someone else, then it depends on if they are an upgrade to Crow.

No according to NFL scouts when he went undrafted in 2009... He went from potential 1 in 2008 to undrafted in 2009... We kill Jacory for throwing pics imagine if our qb threw 20 pics in a year... The guy was overrated...

Not sure why you're comparing him to Jacory Harris. Jevan Snead was no stud, but he was a big time QB prospect who had success after he transferred. Can we end the discussion?
