Matthew Thomas

Bama has never been a real contender

He'd be a monster under Saban.

If he wanted to ensure the wealth and prosperity of his family name for generations...'Bama would be the spot for ol boy.

Come on Larry... You may be disappointed with our Defense but come on man... We can use a player like this... I think its obvious he's coming here unless he's tweeting out shout outs to every coach in his top 3 who's recruiting him... I doubt he tweets to the canes and goes to another school... Haha if he does that I guess that says a lot about his character... But I doubt thats the case...

I think he's coming to Miami...but ol boy would be a monster at 'Bama.
Yep

Being objective here, gotta take the homer glasses off, with his skill set combined with the results Saban has yielded, I understand that many S.FL residents despise him but the guy produces at the collegiate level

Matthew Thomas would have to play safety at Alabama.... even though i'm positive he could dominate at that position, i think he rather play in the box at linebacker.

The way the coaches have developed linebackers like EJ, Gaines, Perryman, and Paul, I know for a fact Thomas will be an all-american at Miami just like he would be anywhere else.

Did you just say that Matthew Thomas would have to play Safety at Bama? I'm guessing you're joking, no? It's hard to tell.

I'm well-aware he trolls the other boards, but I can't tell when he's joking or serious on his football posts.

Well I've read on Alabama boards that Matthew Thomas has stated that Bama wants him at safety so i'm not making **** up..... what is the problem anyway?????

- Edited/Deleted. You know the drill on this board with the personal comments. Troll the WEZ or the other boards. Thanks.

Any links for that or any interview, quote or anything to back that up? Sounds absolutely ridiculous. Have you seen the kid live? His body type and attributes do not fit the Safety position.

Ray Ray Armstrong was bigger then him and slower.....

I don't know of any articles but there have been general talk on Bama message boards that they might be recruiting him at safety since he is small for a linebacker in their program.

Thanks for the links.

As for Ray Ray, he was a different body type and God help any program if that's who is referenced as a Safety. Thomas will be 225ish by the time he'll be counted on.

What you just posted is akin to when NJ said that Deon Bush would outgrow safety and be a LB by the time he graduates.

How so????.....

I'm not a Alabama fan who is constantly trying to find the latest information on Alabama recruiting.... all I said was Bama wants him at safety and the **** hits the fan in this thread.

If they don't want him at safety so be it, I can careless.... Saban recruited Landon Collins as a Nickel Back instead of safety, so he does have a precedent for doing those types of things.

S/O to 6! Good dude :fistbump:

6 is going to be a monster anywhere. Gtfooh with the Bammer recruiting pitch. Turrible, Llllllarry.

Look at what Nick Saban does with CJ Mosley and his versatility...then consider the potential talent level at the same time in their career and imagine what Matthew Thomas would become. Personally, I think he'd become a machine.

That isn't to say he wouldn't become a machine here, but under Saban, he'd eat lightning and crap thunder.

I thought this was the big boy recruiting forum where we could have intelligent discussions about recruits...not a rah rah, pom pom shaking forum...Matthew Thomas is an awesome player...his skill set would match a school like Alabama and what they do on defense...he'd be a lock first rounder there. That isn't to say he wouldn't or won't at Miami...just, as a player, I see a scheme fit in Alabama that would be scary as **** and "fits" (scheme and otherwise) are more than half the battle to success.

He'd also be a monster at Georgia, FWIW but they would utilize him in a different way. I think he'd be a better fit here than at Florida State, FWIW.

I genuinely don't think any of us have a real idea of what kind of fit he'd be here. Even taking what Golden and D'Ono did at Temple and somehow trying to combine that with whatever we can glean from these past two years, I suspect it'll be different when we put together a group of players upfront who are worthy (size, strength, experience) of executing what they're being asked to do.

Its late and I don't want to get into a long discussion, but I don't think it is impossible to glean...the machinery of his defense hasn't varied a whole bunch, but the personnel he brings in allows for differences in alignment and specific expanded roles for players provided they are versatile enough. They ran a lot of the block down, gap control stuff during the early days at Temple and the result was similar to what we saw this year but the upward trend for his defense from one year to the next were great. The only reason I would agree in particular to Thomas, is because Golden hasn't had a player that had his skill set ever before and its tough to project a specific role to a player so versatile when the baseline you have is pennies to the Benjamin. However, considering what we've seen Golden's defense do with special versatile players in the past on the defensive line, projecting what a player like Thomas could become here isn't out of the realm of possibility, but a bit difficult to convey with previous examples.
