Matt Patricia

It's Circular reasoning fallacy.

The logic is, because a guy Coached at the NFL level, then they should be equally if not more successful on the College level because the NFL is harder.

What people who believe that fail to factor in is that the NFL & College are two different games from a collective standpoint. There are collegiate players who individually are going to play & do well in the NFL, but entire teams don't get drafted to the league.

In College, it's mostly a talent acquisition game, in the NFL every team has great talent, so it comes down to late season health & play calling + decision making in critical moments. The margin of error is a lot slimmer in the NFL in order to win on a consistent basis. In college, if you have the more talented roster 9/10 times you're going to win.

Position Coaches & Coordinators matter a lot more in College than they do in the league.

But overall, an NFL coaches success in College has more to do with their adaptability philosophically & understanding the mentality of College young adults, than it has anything to do necessarily with some special knowledge that people assume they might have due to their time in the NFL.

It's a case by case/coach by coach barometer. There are some Coaches on the college level who are better suited for the NFL & there are some NFL coaches who are better suited for college. It strictly depends on their personality.

It's a nuanced topic & nuance is nearly impossible to digest when it comes to CIS.
Love the new Avator. Mr. Milchick for the win.

Being severed doesn’t sound so bad. I could walk around as my “Innie” and forget the last 20 years of ‘Canes football.

Why do people get infatuated with coaches simply because they've spent time in the NFL?
Because the guys that make those decisions have a lot of money on the line - and their evaluative skills should therefore be better, on average, that the typical porsters.

I might’ve agreed with you if it wasn’t Matt Patricia lol, he stinks. I think i saw someone where every defense he took over got worse

I think he will be just filling in for a year until osu promotes someone inside the building

Hey I know we have our guy so it is what it is. However, the next level program was forward thinking enough to bring in a Matt Patricia. This move made me question “are we really a serious program”?
Our guy could very well come in and knock it out the park. However, there is a lot of unknown compared to the coaching hire by the national champions.
I also want to add that the orange and green is very much still a powerful place to be despite what people think. The Cam Ward case is definitely evidence of that. I’m saying this to say I really believe the orange and green could hypnotize a Matt Patricia and other football guys of his stature.

This is called an experiment. One you can do when you just won a national title. Hoping to strike lightening in a bottle like they did with Chip Kelly.
Chip Kelly was actually good at previous stop(s) though.

Not knocking you; not saying you're wrong, simply felt compelled to add that because I hate Matt Pat.

Some on this board have clearly been severed by the Hecht.

If OSU didn't win a natty, and then replaced Jim Knowles with Matt Patricia, youd see Buckeye fans protesting outside of Ryan Day's house. The only reason we aren't seeing that is because they just won a natty.

I don't think any NFL teams had any real interest in Matt Patricia..... think about that for a moment.. technically, he's a former NFL HC.

He's one of many Belichick assts who cashed in on being a belichick asst.
you couldve stopped at the bolded. He wouldve been fired.

If i twasnt for the "12" team playoff Day woulda been outta there he cant beat a sh*tty Michigan team wen they aint cheating.

This is a strange take. Put aside whether Matt Patricia will be any good or not, because really who cares, but you are connecting it to whether we're a serious program and we just paid $3 million to a quarterback so I'm not sure how you're connecting the two.

Is this to further a position in response to “Are we a serious program?”

Miami is certainly not as serious about winning as Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, LSU, etc. We're simply not willing to spend as big on coordinators, and it already cost us big in 2024.
