I've said this in other threads but this was one of my main things with the FSU hype this year.

This kid was one of the first names mentioned when talking about how FSU was going to replace the kids they lost. You lose Jared Verse, a top 20 pick, and we just slide this kid in. Same same. No worries. What are you smoking?? The narrative was, well look we got Jermaine Johnson from UGA and he was the ACC DPOY, Marvin will take the same path. Huh?

Jermaine Johnson went to Juco his first year out of HS, and yes it's Juco, but he was the #1 ranked Juco player in the country after his time there. Had like 12 sacks, just flat dominated Juco at Independence. Yes, again, it's Juco, but it's production against college aged kids. Massive production.

He goes to UGA, plays in every single game in 2019, with a start, and plays very well as a role player. A sack, multiple pressures, forced fumbles. He's impacting games. In 2020, he starts 3 games, has 4 sacks, one against Alabama, double-digit pressures, all in 7 games. Again, production at the college level against elite competition. Goes to FSU for 2011 and goes off.

Marvin Jones does absolutely nothing his true freshman year, and then as a sophomore he has 1 QB hurry and 1 sack for the whole year.

So obviously he just comes right in and picks up where a first-rounder left off, right? WTF are these people doing?

This is the reason I was skeptical on fsu coming into the year and so hyped about us. It's only 1 game, but fsu had a lot of hopes. We hope Marvin Jones is good. We hope Darrell Jackson is a freak. We hope DJ can get a lot better. We hope the WRs, which have done nothing collectively, can take the next step. And those things CAN happen, but they're all hopes.

At Miami, obviously we have question marks too, but there are a ton of kids here who i KNOW are good. I'm not hoping. I KNOW Damian Martinez can run for 1200 yards in a power league. I know Restrepo, George, and Brown can all get 800+ yards. I know Bain, Mesidor, Baron, and Alston can get to the QB, they've collectively done it almost 50 times in their careers. I know 3 of the 5 starting offensive linemen are highly productive players.

I'm not hoping for much from Miami this year. I know a lot of the players we have are good. They've done it. Marvin Jones has done absolutely nothing. But yeah, him and Darrell Jackson definitely make up the best DL in the country. It's almost offensive to think people believe fans are that clueless.

He had some good pass rushing reps, even had a spin move and an up-and-under.

He was absolutely brutal against the run. He shows zero desire to anchor down and play with leverage/hold his spot. He’s the same kind of player as Payton on the other side. They just want to rush the passer.

Well, GA Tech took that away by throwing 15-times and abusing the FSU edges by running right at them.

System/scheme flaw exposed first game of the year! Let’s see how they’re going to adjust (or if they can!)

They have a few guys on Twitter who are fans but also coaches and know the game and I see their tweets sometimes. One of them said the biggest factor in the entire game, in his opinion, was how badly they missed Jared Verse in run support. Just as you said, heavy hands on the edge, forcing things back to the middle, not allowing anything outside. He was as good at that as he was a pass rusher. Said it was the biggest difference between last year’s defense and this one.

In my opinion, that and the linebacker play killed them. They have one decent linebacker. And Lundy is a one-trick pony, he is only serviceable in run support. But other than him the entire rest of the room is smelly trash. Shawn Murphy the all world Bama transfer can’t even get on the field.
