Mario without a first round QB

Belichick without Brady
Jackson without Jordan
Sumlin without Manziel
Saban without 10 consecutive number 1 classes
Argentina without Messi
Any head coach without Lebron.

This place is a cesspool of trolls and negativity dwellers.
LeBron the coach killer?

Definitely closer to Sumlin here than Saban

I am not treating TVD as anything other than when Mario got here, the dude was coming off a strong end of the previous season, and then next 2 seasons record was 12-13. I am not the one that projected TVD's prowess, nor did I crown TVD and then did not play to the guy's strengths, nor get held hostage by him, etc.

No one here was really worried about QB heading into the 2022 season and then vomit inducing losses piled up as the dude got murked and the Mario/Gattis/Ponce combo happened.
What’s the larger point you’re trying to make?

Mario missed on Gattis & so did Maryland. He hired Dawson who runs a good offense if the QB can make the reads.

TVD could not and even at Wisconsin he looked frazzled and now he’s likely going to a G4/FCS school to make one last shot at saving his draft stock which is almost nonexistent

Would Alabama have been the dynasty they were w/o Jalen Hurts, Tua , Mac Jones, and Bryce Young ?

4 NFL QBs made them who they were.
Early Bama Nick Saban won with running the ball and excellent defense, latter was more QB, and a bunch of elite receivers running pass defenders.

this isn't the flex you think it is..............

the flex is x coach with a 1st round QB 8-5 etc.... cough usc cough and all the other programs that couldn't win with a 1st round qb.

You had me until Lebron. Dude misses the playoffs nearly as much as making them....

10 years ago it’s an automatic playoff run on any team. Jordan > LeBron imo. But let’s not act like in his prime he wasn’t the best player on the planet by a lot.

please don’t tell me you’re talking about TVD. Kid had one great 6 game run in his four year career. He was a projected first rounder the same way Jake Heaps was once the top QB in the country

Were you worried about our starting QB entering the 2022 season? Was that QB projected as a strong draft pick at that time?

Excluding FIU for obvious reasons

4-3
10-3
5-7
7-6

Yikes
So that means that the FSU national championship with Winston is meaningless? How about the 49ers Super Bowl wins with Montana? Everybody knows YOU NEED an elite QB + a solid defense to win championships.

Is/was he a great player? Absolutely! But I don't think he was the best player on the planet. Heck, I'd pick Dwayne Wade over him every day of the week. But I am derailing the thread, and for that I apologize! Merry Christmas my friend!

In hindsight, it was a house of cards. I thought TVD would be good here, we all did. Obviously, some NFL analysts did. But these are the same scouts who told Pete Thamel FSU has the best DL in the country. They miss.

As I said, in hindsight, TVD played 6 really awful defenses in 2021 as a freshman with no film on him. Once the book was out, he never adjusted or got better. Some of that is on his coaches. Most of it is on him. But we all bought into the hype of beating up on tomato cans down the stretch in 2021 and winning ACC Freshman of the Year, when reality was he popped out of nowhere and when DCs could gameplan for him, he was cooked. Injuries didn't help either. He was hurt a lot of 2022 and 2023.

I agree with you on most points, and given the subject of the thread why I brought up TVD. A round 1 and a projected round 1 seem like fair game.

Accountability lies on both sides - player and staff - as you mention. The scheme and not playing to his strengths was noted here by even the biggest MariBro, but TVD also never seemed to buy in or develop - maybe some of that was propaganda, some was definitely injury - that FSU game was malpractice and sinful to run him out there - but nonetheless that projection went from 1 to **** rapidly.

To current - House of Cards is what many are currently worried about as we await Santa Claus to bring us portal replacements

strawman argument
any coach will be better with a first round qb
the only exception being good ole sunbelt billy
who won the least of any coach i have seen with a top 5 qb pick

he’s nothing more then another version of Kyle Wright
Van Dyke’s worst season would have been Kyle Wright’s best. At the very least, TVD showed to be a capable, if flawed quarterback playing under Rhett Lashlee. Kyle Wright was just bad.
