…and evolving as a coach.

As one of his harshest but fair critics, I repeatedly criticized his gameday coaching decisions, game plans/style-of-play, and time management (which were all glaring weaknesses) over his first 2 seasons. I also many times gave him credit for being an amazing recruiter and CEO type.

But now I must come to his defense.

Not only has he evolved and accepted that we need to be able to score lots of points in this modern era of football and given Dawson the weapons he needs for it, but he has also exuded a calm demeanor in the 4th Qt that I hadn’t seen from him during the previous 2 seasons, in which he often looked shell shocked and like a deer caught in headlights when the cameras would pan to him on the sidelines.

2024 Mario is calm and stoic, encouraging his group of young warriors to stay calm and keep their heads in the game. Our 2 minute offense looks light years ahead of the past 2 seasons, when there seemed to be no urgency when down big in 2nd halves of games. That’s all changed too.

All in all, what I respectfully mean to say is, give credit where credit is due and when it is warranted. Mario has done a great job this season and even Cam gave him tons of credit last night in his postgame interview.

Teams are throwing the kitchen sink at us, along with other kinds of foreign objects, and we’re still finding the will and the way to win. That is usually a sign of great things to come.

When Cam threw that pick 6 there was a conversation between Mario and Cam. I would have loved to hear what they talked about but body language Mario seemed cool

I think one thing that no one can accuse him anymore is interfering with the offense.
I have accused him of it before but it is clear that he is not meddleling at all and he deserves credit for that.

That’s the kind of thing I’m talking about. I think Cam’s calm demeanor might have rubbed off some on Mario. 🤣
Sad but true, how is a player teaching a coach. Mario is not a mastermind on GameDay for sure. He had Herbert and Nike, now he has Ward and Ruiz. I want to know what does he bring to the table. Our OL lol. Think if we had Petrino or some mad genius. Thankfully we're undefeated.

I’ve drawn the conclusion that he’ll meddle if he doesn’t have faith in a QB… doesn’t believe he has it upstairs to be great or lead.

He has all the faith in the world in Cam so nothing is off the table. He’ll allow him to be him and do his thing.

Most impressive thing he did, to me, was to resist the temptation to take one of the 3 timeouts north of the 2 minute warning.

I had this argument with several people while watching the game but they all eventually came around and ceded it was the right decision.

I don't know if he came to this conclusion by accident or not...but it was brilliant and showed growth on his part.

Feel like they know Cam makes risky throws and you take the great with bad. On to the next play mentality.

There are too many stupid things in this post to comment on each, so instead I’ll encourage you to be better.. because I know you are better.
