Mario Cristobal talks class: “We’ll continue to grow through the second signing period and Portal"

by numbers crunch i meant salary crunch

There’s no real salary crunch either, just trying to pay fair value. But I understand, it’s no big fight or argument. Gators are spending like a drunken sailor.

Not entirely accurate. The UGA’s, Oregon’s and Texas’s of the world’s go to the portal for assistance in key position’s. The foundation to their roster and success is through high school.

Mario is supposed to be this recruiting guru but can’t recruit the defensive side to save his life as we witnessed this season. By year 4, this defense shouldn’t be saved by the portal, imo. They better hit or we are ****ed.

Oregon brought in 14 transfers for this season.

Their starting QB, WR, DT, 3 CB's & FS are all transfers.

Texas brought in 12 transfers for this season.

Their starting QB, 2 WR's, SS, DT & Edge are all transfers.

UGA is the only team in that group that has a low number of transfers starting. And oddly enough has the worse record among the 3.

To act as if Oregon & Texas doesn't rely on transfers just as much as anybody else is disingenuous. Take away their transfer starters & see what their record is.

Of the 12 teams currently slotted to be in the playoffs, 8 of them have transfer players in key roles, that are pivotal to their success.

The idea that the Portal is bad or something to not be used is silly.

Miami wouldn't have won 10 games & had the #1 Offense in the country without the Portal.

...other than the best DL class in the entire country, a freshman All-American (OJ), a Top 5 safety (Patterson) and a Top 20 LB (Hayes).

I swear, the memory is so **** short around here.

This y you The goat, lmao

Has anybody done the math of how many transfer we will be getting? (Scholarships available after graduating class and incoming class).

Obviously there will be transfer departures and the number will change, but where are we at rn?

Maybe if by "can't recruit the defensive side to save his life" you exclusively mean he can't recruit DBs lol.

DT, EDGE, and LB recruiting has been good to great over the last 3 seasons.

22-27 HS and 8-12 portal additions is probably the new standard yearly.

The target should probably be recruit HS well enough so we are only looking for like ~5 LEGIT Portal starters yearly. And you want to have good enough HS recruits (as in guys that were originally HS recruits and have now been developing) across the board where you are confident you're at least average if you strike out in the Portal...

Think we have 83 right now.

Perhaps, I misspoke. Those teams don’t rely on portal to save their season. The majority starters and depth pieces are through HS and essentially reloading. They use the portal to add pieces or upgrade in certain areas (which is our long term goal). We are no where near that as an roster and are in a world of trouble if we don’t pay in portal.

The question is will Samson have the patience to wait and develop. Its going to be tough seeing your classmate (Francis Maugiua) basically be on every NFL Mock draft list as a top 10 pick while Samson is there trying to barely secure a starting job on the OL. And you both came in as 5* cant miss prospects at the same position..These kids have pride too. I really hope he sticks it out.
If he's smart he understands Francis came in physically ready size and strength-wise, while he did not. Both were 5 stars, but Francis was plug and play and Samson was a 5 star based on projection of what he can develop into.

I was thinking this too…better to have money chasing proven college vets than unproven HS freshmen??? How many of our transfers were completely unproductive for us this season??
