And I'm perfectly fine with thatLikely the 2nd year in a row our DL class looks better than our DB

Only time will tell.because of the 40 time people have this notion that hodges is a bad athlete, but the rest of his testing numbers meet the thresholds lance has outlined for a productive P5 DB.
imo the coaches basically see him as a DJ ivey type press corner prospect. just based on his tape, he looks to have pretty long arms. his tape also shows him repeatedly attacking the ball, and we know this staff wants kids who make plays on the field and like to hit.
Don't you mean Paradism?Us. Kid really impressed staff at Paradisn
There are some takes that might seem puzzling--that Texas LB might seem like another after reading Lance's analysis. I would have to think that, as good as Lance's analysis is, and what might seem like a lukewarm take, the coaches see something that they feel they can work with. A LB might be very fast but what if he is a poor diagnostician? I guess you have better recovery speed if you have to get back to where you're supposed to be.Hodges had a pretty good season last year with 34tcks 25PBU's & 4INT's (1INT TD) against 8A Broward talent and he's going to get better this Senior season.
Hodges is not getting dropped from this class no matter how many people hope & wish for it. For one, it would have huge negative effects in our recruiting locally to accept his commitment the way we did only to drop him, later in the year when he's one of the most staunch ambassadors for our class, the kid absolutely loves the u.
And for 2, Rumph feels he can mold him into a legit player on the college level due to how much natural cover ability he has despite the fact he's super raw. Hodges has cover skills that you can't teach, he's just not a pure blazer but he's a technician at Corner & Rumph can work with that.
I get why people don't like him, I'm just telling yall the staff not dropping him.
I know a lot of guys dispute this--and I'm no expert on such matters--but I've heard of college players who supposedly bettered their 40 times significantly. I don't know if it's technique or something else in addition but I believe you can improve 40 times.Agree 100%. I really like the kid and don’t mind the take at all. Points exactly like what you stated but if the kid were to all the sudden run sub 4.6 everyone would be a huge fan. He has the hips for a corner. I would be bothered if we dropped him personally speaking.
Length, hips, awareness, and ball skills. He’s similar to Ivey imo. A lot of people complained about taking him early too.I hope he does not sure where you get that confidence from though would love to hear your explanation
This is a stretch in my opinion. He has a long way to go to be compared to Ivey. If we can't get a better player then I guess it's doable that Rumph could turn him into something. I'd rather us close on Clarke and hopefully get one more guy either new to the board or someone like George and either drop Hodges or grayshirt him.Hodges 6-1 6-2 that can cover and has natural movement. That is a physical gift. Once Feely gets him in the program, think Ivey.
What's your personal opinion of Hodges? I'm fine with the take if the staff is sold on the kid. I didn't think Hodges had the requisite speed to play here but that is obviously not a concern for Diaz and Rumph.Hodges had a pretty good season last year with 34tcks 25PBU's & 4INT's (1INT TD) against 8A Broward talent and he's going to get better this Senior season.

But I'm still wondering how they view Daran Branch, because it'll make a big difference if they see him at S or CB.
If they see him as a CB, I think they'll take George & Hodges, if they see Branch as a Safety, I think we'll take Clarke & George for now.
And I'm perfectly fine with that
If there is on thing that has plagued us during the resurgence of our defense play has been the ability for our LB’s to consistently read & react to running plays. That is the big reason we have consistently given up big plays in the run game. I believe the coaches are looking for backers with better diagnostic instincts, who play tough and an ability to get to consistently get to the ball. As good as Shaq has been, he would have been consistently in the 100+ tackle category each of his 4 years of starting. There are some takes that might seem puzzling--that Texas LB might seem like another after reading Lance's analysis. So, I usually trust the coaches on these things.
I mean of course he does, he’s going into his Sr year of high school and Ivey is a Sophomore in college. But Ivey has the same skill set and he was considered slow too... until he covered Jeff Thomas in a 7 on 7, then everybody said “maybe he can play” smh. This is a stretch in my opinion. He has a long way to go to be compared to Ivey. If we can't get a better player then I guess it's doable that Rumph could turn him into something. Surprised fsu is in it they have 4 cbs committed. Unless demorie tate is looking else where. Still think he is our easily

There was a screenshot from the opening the other day that showed Demorie's name and below it said "uncommitted". I assume that was just a production error but never know I guessSurprised fsu is in it they have 4 cbs committed. Unless demorie tate is looking else where. Still think he is our easily
I’ll take Tate in a heartbeat
That's fair I just need my CBs to have speed and I don't think his hips are that great. Ball skills are super overrated for me. If your a good CB they're rarely throwing at you and when they do I don't need picks I just need PBUs. Ball skills would just be a cherry on top for me for a CBLength, hips, awareness, and ball skills. He’s similar to Ivey imo. A lot of people complained about taking him early too.
Ball skills are what QBs fear, that’s why they don’t throw at good DBs. They know the field changes. I mean, he’s not 100% polished and finished but he definitely has tools to work with. I think once he starts getting stronger, especially in lower body, he’ll become faster. I feel ya tho, I like speed too. I think it’s becoming overrated with DBs tho bc most WRs are bigger targets that aren’t just blazers. Most DBs today need length and physicality. That's fair I just need my CBs to have speed and I don't think his hips are that great. Ball skills are super overrated for me.
