Duncanville (Tex.) High School DL Marcel Southall took an official visit to Miami last weekend.
Unfortunately he wasn't available for interviews - his phone was dropped in water and is still drying out in a bag of rice.
But his high school defensive line coach, Ramel Borner, says that Southall told him today "that he had a great time down there, that Miami is really high on his list."
Also on his list: Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi and TCU.
"He's going to take a visit this weekend, it's between Ole Miss and TCU for the visit," Borner said. "Then he'll come back and make his decision, will announce it on signing day."
Would Borner be surprised if Southall picks the Canes?
"I wouldn't be surprised because he had them as the one school before this recruiting process that he personally wanted to always go and play for," Borner said. "He grew up a Miami fan."
Certainly Southall is a tremendous talent who could line up at end or tackle.
"No. 1 he is very athletic, is strong," Borner said. "He has a great pass rush. He runs a 4.9 but played with a high ankle sprain this season that slowed a lot of momentum down for him. We never really could shake that this season.
"Honestly he just was dominating at the 3 technique and his pass rushing ability, he can get to that quarterback pretty fast, is good with his hands."
Borner adds, "I think he' s an NFL prospect in two to three years."
