The NCAA rules are a joke. Everyone is making money off of these kids, except the kids. "Amateurism" is a sham. I understand the ideal of keeping a level playing field, but why shouldn't a kid who is successful be able to benefit from his own popularity based on his success? Top students are able to secure good summer jobs/internships based upon their accomplishments, why shouldn't athletes be allowed to do the same thing? It's criminal that a school can benefit from selling replica jerseys (the appeal of which is based on the accomplishments/popularity of an athlete (see UM selling No. 8 jerseys this year)), but the kid upon whose success the school is glomming is precluded from doing so.
