Malcolm Lewis did not apply for Medical Redshirt

My question: Should we redshirt him this year??

Absolutely not. If he's healthy, and everything The Don has said is that he's full go come fall, then he's one of our best WRs. You don't save your best players for later.

I thought you could only get a medical red shirt after all eligible is exhausted. Basically after his senior season he could apply.

you can get it anytime as long as you fall into the 33% of games limit. After you exhausted your 5 years and anyone of those years were lost to injury then you can apply for a 6th year like Joel Figs and Moncour did.

A six year is almost never granted unless you lost two full years of the five you have been playing. Medical redshirts are granted by the conference after each season ends. I don't understand the logic of not applying for one now. What is the downside to not applying?

I love this kid's game, I'm hopeful he can make a full recovery. He could be a huge contributor for us.
