### UM receiver Malcolm Lewis did not apply for a medical redshirt and will be a sophomore this season, not a redshirt freshman. Lewis suffered a season-ending injury in the fourth game against Georgia Tech last September and could have applied for a redshirt. But UM says he can apply for another year after his senior season, if he chooses.

might be a smarter call for him. Senior year if he isn't happy with his draft stock he has another year to shine

This kid is legit.

You see how Herb Waters broke out mid to end of last season? Well that would've been Malcom who is MUCH faster and more polished

you think he will come back where he left off or he has to work allot harder to get back to where he was?

I saw him recently... He looks a little pudgy. He is looking a bit like Theron Collier. I hope he still has his speed.

It would have been the same in the end if he would have applied for his redshirt to begin with. If he doesn't like his draft stock as a JR rs he would still have another season. He should have done it to begin with IMO.

He looked real good to me. Before the injury, i specifically recall some people saying he was our best WR. I think people are sleeping on him, if he is 100% he will get plenty of balls thrown his way. Our best slot guy by far.

he won't need it anyway kid is talented and will be drafted high enough where he won't need a 5th year..

I think he will be back to form by FSU game.. if you watch the spring game you can see the burst is still there but he is still babyin that leg once he take a few hits and realize that leg is ok he will once again be a playmaker...

I will admit I am a bit worried for him, Waters, Dorsett, Hurns, Coley, D'mauri, Scott and Jones. Thats a lot of dudes to overcome this year. Never know what we may bring in. I do love this kid, I am just worried that he may get lost in the shuffle. Hopefully the kid is a boss and just studs out when given his opportunities. Either way we win as fans.

Don't worry bro, he won't get lost. Kid is quick, runs great routes and has great hands. He's about as complete as a college Wr can be . The minute he's full speed is the minute he's in the rotation.

I thought you could only get a medical red shirt after all eligible is exhausted. Basically after his senior season he could apply.

Am I wrong?

I don't care who the WRs are on the team, you aren't keeping this kid off the field.

This the same Herb Waters that had two LONG touchdowns to close the season and tested as one of the 5 fastest guys on the team this summer?

you can get it anytime as long as you fall into the 33% of games limit. After you exhausted your 5 years and anyone of those years were lost to injury then you can apply for a 6th year like Joel Figs and Moncour did.

Im guessing that Malcolm Lewis doesnt plan on being at the college level for more than 2-3 more years.

My question: Should we redshirt him this year?? I say yes.

I think we will need Malcolm Lewis more next year and the year after than we do this year. Adding to this, I tend to think that if Phillip Dorsett has a good season, he could be gone to the league after this season. If Dorsett can run a sub 4.4 forty at the combine or Canes Pro Day (as he did recently on campus), I think he'll find his way into the first couple rounds. If Dorsett leaves, we will really want an extra year from Malcolm Lewis.

If Lewis is 100% no way the kid deserves a redshirt. Kid rose to the top of the depth chart and showed he's a playmaker. If he didnt apply for the medical redshirt for whatever reason you can see he thinks he doesn't need it. If he does, he could just apply after his senior year like the article said. Our coaches definitely won't redshirt him, you can't make a permanent decision based off a possibility.

These dudes crack me up with their hyperbole. Lewis is quick, but I don't think he's faster than Herb let alone MUCH FASTER.
