It's obvious that in South Florida, you are **** if you do and damned if you don't.
If you hire a HS coach with zero college experience you are taking a HUGE gamble....and if the guys fails and you have to fire him, the whole football community down there hates you. If by chance the guy succeeds, he quickly bolts to another school (Malzahn), likely the SEC, for more money. Can you say Mario Cristotraitor?
If you don't hure a HS coach b/c he has zero experience, then you are turning your back on the local community according to the football guys down there.
So what is Golden to do? He's screwed no matter what. Quite honestly, every time i've watched any South Florida team not coached by George Smith on TV, what i see is a badly coached team with poor fundamentals and awful penalties. I haven't seen all the teams on TV, but i have seen enough to make that comment. The teams down there win on athleticism alone. The coaching in South Florida is not up to par when compared to other areas across the country....probably for several reasons but money being at the top. Also.....what ever happened to the old theory of EARNING things in life? And by that i mean proving yourself at lower levels. Most people in life do. We have to work our way up the corporate ladder, sometimes starting at small companies or at the very bottom of big ones. Same thing with coaching. From HS, most guys jump to small colleges and then upward. This whole self-entitlement issue in South Florida isn't just with the players, it's with the coaches and role models of these kids which is why the culture is so messed up.
