Lu, et al... ? re: defensive schemes

Do you think you will see more blitzing out of these zone looks this year or is he going to try and get to the passer with 4 (something we haven't been able to do in years).?
We can get to the passer with 4--if you, for instance, utilize the zone blitzes I outlined correctly. Send 3 DL, drop a DE into coverage, delay blitz the LB. That's only 4 guys going to the QB--but the key is, it's a different look, and something that the opposing QB/OC have to look for. You don't have to send 5-6 guys on a blitz for it to be effective. If we find the soft spot of the protection that the OL has called, then we'll get to the QB.

If you don't have 4 bulls up front that can mow down the OL and get to the passer on sheer physical talent, then you have to scheme up blitzes to hit the soft spots of the protections. That's what we'll have to do, regardless of what kind of coverage our secondary is playing.

We could run overload blitzes and conventional blitz packages with man coverage behind them (and we will, I hope).

While I'd love to see more Fire Zone, I really don't think that's in D'Ono's ****nal. First of all, one would call it a relatively "easy" concept, but it's fairly difficult to pick up as a unit because a few positions are very nuanced.

This is something not done very well by young guys, however, and that's what our defense is made up of.
