Louisville Punter Refused to play last night

Of course, this assumes that the kid's story is the accurate version.
It does. But my point was less about this specific situation and more about the fact that we are in a pay for play environment. Players/schools/collectives are going to have to get their contracts in order. Just like any and every other business in the country.

Sure except the school doesn't pay the NIL. Unless Louisville withheld tuition payments, forced him to cover his own meals, hotel and travel for the bowl game, and didn't pay the monthly stipend as stipulated by the scholarship the school is contractual made to pay, then it's slightly different..

With NIL in play, why do athletic scholarships still exist? The student-athlete title should be removed and the players should only be enrolled as students if they meet the school's academic standards and if they want to pursue the dehree. The players should be employees of the universities and the programs should be no different than any other fundraising program on campus.
Players and their families and agents aren’t going to distinguish between schools and their collectives. When a collective does not pay, the immediate leverage is for the player to threaten not to play. The longer term solution is to sue the collective, but that takes months or years.

I don’t disagree about the scholarships. But if the student receives a scholarship, that needs to be included in the NIL compensation and needs to be taxed like any other income.

Cuts both ways. Sure pay as promised, but I would like to see all NIL deals say must play (And try) full season, including any bowl. Shameful to put money and effort into PopTarts weekend and not (fully) see Cam or Restrepo. Sure NFL is on their priority list, but for many Fans the here and now is priority!

I'm old enough to remember laughing at pro soccer leagues in other countries like Argentina where players didn't get paid. Little did I know similar stuff was going to occur in this country in, of all places, college athletics.
Eh it’s really common in South America in soccer. Player’s salaries are delayed… they’ll go months without getting paid. These are top players too. It’s a little more well organized now but such was the case in Brazil. Also a lot of Brazilian clubs fail to pay the entire transfer fee when they buy another player so they always end up having to go to court.

CFB has violated itself and never be the same, don’t really give a hoot trash business like all pro sports.

Have heard this about some Euro pro (not youth) basketball leagues as well. Not nearly as bad, but American players constantly dealing with delayed payments.

No tikee, no laundry..

Haven't heard that in a while - for me it was a slight variant :

"No Tikky - No Wash-ee!

Another was, "A Deal is a Deal."

Put whatever IN the contract. I'm no an attorney - and try to stay up wind of lawyers - but even my dumb *** knows that.

Remember somebody here said a long time ago UL wasn’t paying people. No contracts , no money , nada. I spoke on A&M the year they had the great class. Reading those contracts was like reading a cell phone bill circa 2003. Then kids dipped out after a year. It’s been a common issue but now kids are finally speaking up.
Yep I mentioned last year that Louisville wasn’t paying players their NIL money they agreed to. Had a couple parents speak out about it on Facebook
