Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

I’ve been saying for a long time that these transfer rules are dumb. They need to change this rule.

One year you have to sit out unless you are a grad transfer. It’s bad enough with NIL but being able to transfer when you want is ridiculous.
Whoever can solve the transfer issue will be the savior of CFB, the problem is, it’s pretty much impossible

Did they make it some type of law? I can’t think of another solution to the portal and NIL madness than to make transfers a 1 year sit out.

I think recently some law went down that you can transfer multiple times now without penalty.

I mean, what kind of crazy dumb laws like these are being passed? I have an idea but it’s not the forum for it. Same people likely forgiving student loans.

There’s no law that went down and there’s no law that went down on student loans. There’s a temporary restraining order allowing kids to transfer before the case is heard. Courts could easily decide against it and kids who transferred would have to stick. Coaches leave schools yearly without penalty and no one cares. ****, we beg for new coaches to upgrade over the current staff each year.

Ok - then you can’t have it both ways.

People can’t be complaining about transfer portal, wanting things under control and at the same time use the narrative that if one gets to leave the other can leave.

Coaches are paid as this is their job. As a college student/student athlete, until recently you weren’t getting paid.

And whatever, it doesn’t have to be a law. The context still stands - who is pushing or allowing these things to happen? And why?

Oh, they should get to transfer because coaches can change jobs yearly? Is that the rationale?

That’s like sayin because you make $1 million, I should make $1 million.

Huh? The players are being granted the freedom to leave once. Coaches can still hop each year. How is this having it both ways?

It’s the job for the kids too. Student athlete at a big time CFB program is a sham. This is the minor leagues for the NFL.

There was a lawsuit filed by a student. That’s why it happened. The NCAA and a bipartisan state coalition agreed to the TRO so kids won’t get caught up in the middle of the case while the legal proceedings are going on. The judge presiding over the case was appointed by George W. Bush. It’s ok that you’re upset, but you’re way off base as far as pretty much everything goes.

It’s hypocritical to make them sit — which was your initial claim that they should be subjected to now that there is NIL.

We have starters and freshmen on the DL. Could be a bad recipe if injuries hit us.

Recipe? Sounds like a food thread incoming…

This isn’t a new cook book… people have been pointing this out for multiple portal cycles…

My whole point with this is that college football has become a mercenary league.

It seems like part of the argument is. That because coaches can change jobs or leave jobs that the players should be able to transfer.

They are transferring pursuing the money. I hate what it’s become. You can’t keep and develop a team or at best it’s become 100x harder.

There doesn’t have to be an equality for everything. In jobs you have bosses.

Being compensated via NIL should be enough. If you want to transfer, you should have to sit out a year. There is no happy mean here. You give then 1 yard and they go and take 50 yards and you are obviously fine with that and the chaos that has become college sports.

As example: I was for transfer where you didn’t have to sit out when there was no NIL. Now that there is NIL, I am not for free transfers because it’s all about chasing the money.

People love the free market until the free market isn’t beneficial, though. It’s been about chasing the money from the BoTs, to the University Presidents, to the ADs to the HCs. Now the players are getting a small bite at the apple above board and the sport is being ruined. I just thinks it’s completely hypocritical and so easy to flip these arguments against it on their head. It’s just silly IMO to criticize the kids here, who are ultimately still the biggest losers in all of this. The people who are in charge have had years to make changes that made sense and they’ve failed to. Misguided anger and frustration, IMO.

Free market?!

I don’t have a problem with them getting paid. My issue is the transfer rule. They can get paid and you can still not have the chaos that you have now with the transfers.

Everyone gets bailed out without consequences. Yet you are required to pay, say a TVD 7 figures and he stinks it up the way he did this year. It’s the risks/reward aspect of the business.

It’s like just printing money and giving it to everyone. It dilutes the product.

The BOT, TV, universities, etc are always going to make their money regardless. Just like in the NFL the owners are going to make their money. Doesn’t mean that the players should also get paid Billions just because they are making the big, big money.

It sounds like you just want a whole pie split evenly all the way around and that’s not how it works or it should work.

Who said anything about the players getting paid billions or the whole pie being split evenly? You’re projecting the argument that you want to go up against. I’m for the players being able to maximize their earnings. Full stop.

I’m not going to complain about the guys with the shortest shelf life here and getting the shortest end of the stick being able to move freely. Let the people making billions figure this out and it won’t have to end up in court, but they kicked the can down the road for years simply because they were making billions.

good luck. courts are overruling you and NCAA.

when they do it to chemistry Phd or entrepreneurs also on scholarship (and yes often helping university make bank by research or equity in startups) give me a call then I will stress

I was taking it to the extreme because you want it all in terms of where the advantages should lie.

Make the most money possible and be able to move about freely.

I am for 1 or the other but not both.

You want the whole cake.

This just reeks of entitlement. Where am I wrong here? Regardless of the consequences/short shelf life, it’s that way wether you move freely or not.

I know that and that’s the point? Why? I originally brought it up as the only way possible to stop this madness is to not allow kids to transfer as they wish without having to sit out.

I am not talking about the money part.

It’s just like everyone asking for an increase in minimum wage? Sure, go ahead and just look at it from one aspect but guess what, companies are just hiring less people and making those do more work of two or three people. Hence why every store you go to now, you have a million self check out lanes and very few open lanes with people working it. But I digress.

In the same context, college football, despite the money, it’s a free for all, mercenary sport. You have guys just hitting the portal to get more money.

For our head recruiting coach, it mitigates his one advantage significantly. Hence, pretty much renders him useless because he’s a terrible game day coach.

Are the coaches entitled for being able to jump staff to staff? Sell kids on coming to schools and then announce that they’re leaving the day after NSD?

Another coach replaces them. You should commit to a head coach and a program. Position coaches are important, of course, but the head man is the main person.

Gents! Good discourse

Happy New Year! May the new year bring health and happiness to you and your families and a lot of Canes victories, especially in football.

I am off to eat some Churrasco on the grill and drink plenty of ****tails.
