That’s a massive “if” in your assumption. JS might be the next Andre Johnson but it took Andre a season or two to get going.

For next year, we need at least 1 portal WR that has performed at a high level against quality competition. JS can contribute, but its unlikely he will be receiver numero uno next year.
He also could be the next Richards

I like the comparison but Dre was faster.

What IF Smith flips to Miami?
That’s awesome but again, relying on true freshmen to take you to 9-10 wins is a dangerous and personally, foolish game.

The true big dogs don’t let 5-star freshmen dictate their actions in the portal. Bama, Texas, USC, LSU, Ole Miss, FSU, Oregon, UGA, etc. all go after upgrades at every position each year. Veteran, proven upgrades at that. We should be absolutely no different.

He's not. But even if he did, so what?

He would have to earn his PT just like any other TF. You don't pass up a sure thing in a productive WR just because of a potential incoming Freshman.

HS is HS, College is College.

Agree on both

Guess should have added, is WR urgent need right now before ESD??

You act like the roster is gonna be freshman only. We have 2 seniors in starting roles right now, Horton who has shown flashes and is in his third year and then the talented kids from last year and other kids who have never had a chance to play. And the already loaded class of recruits. WR isn’t as big of an issue as y’all make it out to be.

If we’re able to land Ward, hopefully that would entice receivers not currently in the portal to want to come here.

- A.D. Mitchell didn’t enter the portal until mid-January 2023.
- Keon Coleman didn’t enter the portal until late April 2023.
- Jamari Thrash didn't enter the portal until early January 2023.
- Jordan Addison didn't enter the portal until early May 2022.
- Jameson Williams didn't enter the portal until late April 2021.
- Wan'Dale Robinson didn't enter the portal until mid-January 2021.
- Puka Nacua didn't enter the portal until March 2021.

Attracting a legit headliner WR1 via the portal should absolutely be a priority to help maximize the value of investing so much in a top-flight portal QB. Especially when the most likely replacement at the moment for Colbie Young is a receiver in Isaiah Horton who has a grand total of 9 receptions in 2 years.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result.

If you have the opportunity to grab a proven upgrade at ANY position in the portal, you do it. Resting on your laurels is a dangerous game, plus it’s already been said neither WR is a lock to return (just like Colbie Young).

All that WR production got us 7-5. Everything can be upgraded from a 7-5 team.

Whats the point in recruiting elite talent if you are going to play jags over them from the portal ? Develop in house when you have elite talent

We had better WR production than a certain team that went 13-0.

It had nothing to do with our WRs

Sigh* Guess we’re going to do this today. I got time.

@GrozDozer no shot at you, just tagging you to understand my rationale backed with examples.

Why did USC bring in Dorian Singer if they brought back Tahj Washington, Mario Williams, Brendan Rice, Michael Jackson III, etc., while signing Zachariah Branch, Makai Lemon, and Ja’Kobi Lane?

Why did Oregon bring in Tez Johnson, Gary Bryant and Tre’Shon Holden when they were returning Troy Franklin and Kris Hutson while signing Jurrion ****ey and Ashton Cozart?

Why did Georgia bring in RaRa Thomas and Dominic Lovett when they were returning Ladd McKonkey, Rosemy-Jacksaint, Arian Smith, Dillon Bell + signed Tyler Williams, Anthony Evans and Zeed Haynes?

Why did Texas grab Adonai Mitchell out of the portal despite having Worthy + a top 40 WR and a top 135 WR in their ‘23 class?

Why did FSU sign Keon Coleman when they had Wilson coming back, Douglas, Poitier, and signed 5-star Hykeem Williams?

Why did Oklahoma go out and sign Andrel Anthony from Michigan (and Brenan Thompson from Texas even if the latter didn’t perform up to expectations) when they were returning Farooq, Stoops, a couple of other freshman, + they signed Jaquaize Pettaway?

Even UNC went out and grabbed Tez Walker and Nate McCollum despite having 3 240 yard+ younger WRs returning in addition to signing top 120 prospect Chris Culliver and fellow 4-star Christian Hamilton.

I could keep going, and this is JUST the WRs. I haven’t even sniffed DT, DB, LB, etc. None of these schools rest on their laurels. Every recruit I listed was a high 4 or 5*, and every returning player had at least 200 yards (most of them 250 to 300+).

If you’re given an opportunity to upgrade your roster at ANY position with a more experienced, more proven, and better overall player RIGHT NOW (not down the road, right now)…you’re a flat out moron if you say no. You’re banking on hypotheticals, and Miami doesn’t have that luxury in ‘24.

We’re talking about Isaiah Horton and his 114 yards receiving like he’s some Bonafide star in the making LOL. I didn’t even list recruits that are being “developed” in the ‘21 or ‘22 classes, only the ‘23 ones that were supposedly going to play immediately and in Miami lenses, no need to bring in established, proven guys over.

This fanbase is so obtuse sometimes. Are we sure we want to win games? This team went 7-5 last year, no position is safe from upgrading.
