Lockhart might be playing soon

If he can help us right now there is zero reason to red shirt him. If game experience is what he needs it doesn't do him a bit of good to sit the bench.

I agree with this. I would only redshirt guys who aren't capable, for whatever reason, of contributing this year.

He's also a year out of HS already due to prep, so that has to be considered.

Was Ivery out due to injury or was he just not ready for prime time?

We'll never know, but probably the latter. He was fully participating in summer drills but there were several consistently listed ahead of him on the depth chart.

It's nice to see that we have player development during the season. Dorsett is definitely not the same guy now he was Week 1, same with Scott and Bush. Growth is happening and that's a great sign for the future.

Alls I kept hearing about Ivery was he was built like an oak tree stump and was impossible to displace. That would be nice to have if ND plans on controlling the LOS.

I believe the reasons Ivery is going to be playing now is Pierre is out for this week and possibly miss more games and Porter may never again suit up for the canes.Golden has no choice but to throw Ivery in there.

Play the freshman. This year is about development, experience and game time reps.

We need more DL so I'm curious to see if DI can make a difference up front.
More DB, JH, AC, TH, ML, and now RL!

Also gotta figure we are barely 1/3 of the way through the year. LONG way to go, depending on postseason as well.

If he can contribute now, there is no reason to shirt Lockhart. We have AJL coming in (assuming he stays as a WR) next year, and Lane next year, and every year So FL produces enough WR talent to replenish the playmakers who leave. This is the best recruiting grounds in the country for WR. As Ringz notes, if Lockhart can make that one great fade catch to score a TD, or even to move the chains, and step into the role Lewis was performing, it's worth it.

I'll admit I didn't expect it this year, but we can win the ACC Coastal right now. With our porous defensive line, we need as many weapons as we can get to put points on the board. We just need to end the game with one more point than Va Tech and UNC, and the Coastal is ours.
