Shout out to my boys at The W man! Lost their starting quarterback two days ago, then go win a 7-on-7 tournament with the 9th grade back up.

A lot of 7-on-7's this weekend.

Canes tourney
Miami Dolphins tourney
USF sling-n-shoot
UCF

The Dolphins tourney was loaded. St Thomas, Miami Northwestern, Miami Central, McArthur, Deerfield, American Heritage, Tampa Plant, Killian, etc.
Scit‼️ Who won that tourney or is it still going on?

The Dolphins tourney was loaded with great teams/talent but the set-up was wack.

Refs were NEVER on the same page and rarely knew the actual rules.

They wouldn't let us play any form of single-high coverage. Our base coverage is Cover-3, which is a single-high Safety. So we couldn't even run our primary coverage on defense. Refs forced us to stay in 2-high. Rule book simply said you had to have two Linebackers and TWO SAFETIES on the field. Didn't say that both Safeties had to be up-top. (I found a way around that though) ;)

They didn't reward the defense for interceptions or stops. Most tournaments award the defense a few points for interceptions. This allows you to still score or possibly win a game if your offense is struggling. We were undefeated but lost our last game to American Heritage cause our offense struggled. The 3 interceptions we forced in that game would've given us the win though. Oh well.

And finally, they had no play-offs. The way they determined the winner of the tournament was by adding up the results from the DL/OL skills challenge, fastest man contest, bench press, long toss + the 7-on-7 results. Weird. I would love to see the equation they used and how they came up with a cumulative score.

Top-3 were...
1. Booker T
2. Miami Northwestern
3. Deerfield (although Deerfield beat MNW in the tournament)

Like I said, weird structure. I've been to countless 7-on-7 tournaments and never seen a set-up like it.

I will say this...

McArthur got something going. They were talented and I thought their coaches did a pretty good job. Everything from the way they talked to the kids to the technique/details they were teaching seemed to be on point. They absolutely styled all over Miami Northwestern.

If the American Heritage squad I saw is any reflection of what they'll be fielding next season, they may have some concerns. They've had a lot of kids transfer out. They look nothing like the Heritage teams of the past. Everybody seemed to be missing some kids however. Maybe due to visits? I know we were missing 3 starters on defense and 3 on offense, as well as Jaziun Patterson. Rosemy wasn't there for STA. I'm not sure if Brinson was there for MNW. (I don't know what he looks like)
Maybe Heritage was missing some guys, but they look very pedestrian at spots. MNW didn't appear to be that talented either.

Can you give us a rundown on any UM targets/commits? Or at least the X man?

X was killing people out there. He played slot WR on offense and Nickel (Striker) on defense.

He had a few highlight catches in the tournament that made spectators "oh and ah"...particularly a Beckham style one-handed catch in the back of the end zone with a defender draped on him.

He was extremely solid and valuable at the Nickel position. Had a couple interceptions in the tournament. And made a ton of great open-field "tackles".
