Let’s talk Defense vs. Syracuse

Why do people think we can’t run 3-3 vs Cuse? I’d like to go multiple different setups so McCord never knows where we’re coming from.

Need speed at LB. Love the idea of more Popo, Pruitt (Washington?). Alderman looking faster than Kiko too.

I’d like to see us try our UF approach of press assuming Guidry has fixed the assignment and alignment problems. Also more disguised coverages to keep McCord guessing. We need to free up a guy or two for pressure and that pressure needs to be unpredictable. Kiko needs to get a couple sacks this game. But spread the love.

On offense I want a balanced attack between run and pass. No interest in controlling the clock but definitely want to control tempo to our choosing. A lot of thunder and lightning in the run game. Otherwise just play our game and don’t try to get too cute, especially Cam. If he wants to throw go routes for 400 yards and they’re open, great. But don’t push into defended space.

As a team they have a thousand yards rushing. As comparison, we have 1994 on the year. To say they are 1 dimensional is an understatement.

Stick with traditional 4 linemen with their hands in the dirt. Will be good early if Moten/Clark can collapse the pocket and get a hand in Mccords face. Id also like to see some light DL packages with some speed rushers on the outside as a change up if we’re going with a blitz package.

I also think our best defense will be our offense. While we can air it out with the best of them we should come out like we did in the second half and just run at will. They get down by 14 and he’ll start to take chances and/or hold the ball longer.

I’m not sure if it is better to use our Louisville game plan and go full throttle hoping to win shootout or to control the clock and limit Syracuse’s possessions.

If it is the latter, Cristobal and Dawson need to have a heart to heart with Cam. Tell him the win - and our playoff hopes- depend on him keeping the offense on schedule. That means check downs and not taking sacks. If he sees a 4 yard gain, take it. Use his legs and pick up those yards. Don’t run around in backfield looking for the 45 yard passes. If we are in 3rd and longs, it means they are winning.

And if we are going ball control , then it should look like the FSU game. Defensively we should play like FSU played us. Keep everything in front, slow the game down. Bring extra pressure if the edge, don’t let McCord get comfortable. Make them beat the defense with the run. They are a one dimensional team- if McCord isn’t able to slice and dice the pass defense and get chunk plays. it is going to frustrate him and he will throw INTs.

again though I don’t know which is more effective- playing for a shootout or trying to win the TOP battle and keeping their offense off the field. Guess that’s why they make the big bucks.

I don't trust our offense being too methodical. That seems to be when we breakdown. I know teams adjust, but if we can just replicate our scripted drives, we will be alright.

Can't get stuffed on 1st down. Seems to be when we have our most trouble

Idk who we should put on Gadsden but damari fresh off injury? **** naw lol might have to bracket him on 3rd downs and redzone

Just limit explosives and bait mccord into some picks. Offense has to play a more consistent game..thats honestly what im more worried about heading into this game and post season play.

We still are a great offense but we stall out too much, defense is what it is imo if we get a good game cool lol but we go as far as the offense takes us. We win vs gtech if we convert on money downs and finish drives

We better watch the Pitt game tape vs. Cuse and try to emulate some of the things they did to force some TOs.

Not saying we are going to do as well as they did but all we need is one ore two picks in this game and we should be good. I truly believe that.

I'm curious if we are going to look to dominate time of possession and run the ball, not giving McCord as many possessions as he would like and the defense coming after him.
That sounds good in theory and in general I would agree that would be a good plan. However in reality the problem is that our offense just doesn't run at peak efficiency when they run thst style. When we go run heavy and slow the pace down, our offense has trouble finishing drives and they tend to get bogged down much easier than when we push it down the field. Another negative is that the run heavy and slower game pace takes Cam out of his rhythm. This offense is by far at their best being a pass first team that throws in the run as a changeup. When we get a commanding lead however then we can pound defenses and work the clock.

If for whatever reason we must go to the run based offense earlier in a game then it's crystal clear to me that it is imperative we have Jordan Lyle/Ajay Allen at RB. It's obvious that they are quicker to the hole and both have the speed to make plays outside the tackles and potentially make house calls. This is crunch time. This is the stretch run. It's important we use the roster wisely and to maximum effectiveness. This isn't about who had the biggest NIL anymore if it ever was. There is no reason for Ajay Allen to be sitting on the bench with zero snaps. We know now that Meesh Powell must be at Nickel, Porter at CB and Mesidor at DE in addition to playing Kiko to his strengths and using him in a downhill role exclusively. I'm not under the delusion that this defense can transform into the 85 Bears for the rest of the season. However if we use the adjustments mentioned above in a smart and versatile manner then we could conceivably improve enough defensively to make a deep run if we make the playoffs.

Back to offense, we have all noticed that offensively we have been in a bit of a rut lately. Personally I feel thst we have become too RPO based and a bit too predictable. We need to get back to dominating in the intermediate passing game which is Cam's strength. If it's a matter of taking what the defense is giving then fine but in those instances Dawson must communicate effectively to Cam that working the quick game is crucial to having things open up later in the game. Also if anyone remembers those post game pressers earlier in the season where Cam and even Dawson himself would say that we have only used 10-15% of the playbook then you likely agree with me that this point in the season would be the ideal time to expand the offense by going into that playbook. We must have a ton of stuff that we rep in practice every week but have not used in real games. Let's bust that out now. Oh and one more thing; We have an absolute stud and sure fire 1st rounder in TE Elijah Arroyo. USE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arroyo is the pressure point this offense should use to regain the explosive big play dominance we saw up until FSU(with the exception of the 2nd half vs Duke). Go Canes!!!!!!!

They have LeQuint Allen, whom has nearly 900 yards rushing with 12 rushing TDs.

Their slot guy, Peña, left last game hurt so who knows the extent of that injury. Of course, Gadsen at TE/WR.

They are going to be a ******* problem thanks to our bad defense.

I will start drinking early Saturday, like 8am so hopefully I fall asleep just before game time and save myself the agony on my already fragile heart.
