Leatherwood not decommiting anytime soon

Alabama had its five-star offensive tackle commit Alex Leatherwood on campus last week for the majority of the week.

The 2017 tackle made his first trip back to Tuscaloosa since earlier this year, and enjoyed the camp atmosphere.

“Probably the good prospects that were there and stuff like that,” Leatherwood told BamaOnLine of what stood out about the experience. “The competition between the DBs and the receivers and stuff like that. It was just a good camp overall.”

Leatherwood’s relationship with offensive tackles and tight ends coach Mario Cristobal is one of the primary reasons he committed to Alabama in the first place.

It was offensive line coach Brent Key that the five-star tackle wasn’t all too familiar with.

“I spent a lot of time with the both of them last week,” Leatherwood said. “(Key) is a great coach.”

The Pensacola product spent a lot of time with head coach Nick Saban throughout his stay.

“For like most of Tuesday it was just me and him walking around scouting out people,” Leatherwood said.

Leatherwood was one of the top recruiters for four-star JUCO tackle Elliot Baker, who committed to Alabama last Monday evening.

“I feel real good about it,” Leatherwood said. “I was the one who really got him onboard. I was convincing him that me and him could both make early impacts, and the importance of needing tackles and stuff like that.”

Leatherwood kept tabs on other prospects as well.

“A few other receivers, but I mainly worked with the O-line guys,” he said.

While no official visit has been set for Alabama, Leatherwood has a pretty good idea of which weekend he’ll be back on campus.

“Nine times out of ten it’s going to be the Iron Bowl,” he said.

The five-star tackle doesn’t have any visits to other schools planned, and expects to be back in Tuscaloosa next month for the second summer session camp. Florida is hosting a satellite camp at Leatherwood’s high school on Friday.

As far as Leatherwood’s commitment status, he answered as to whether he’s still a firm commit to the Crimson Tide.

“Of course,” he said.

Standing at 6-foot-6, 315 pounds, Leatherwood is rated the No. 5 offensive tackle and the No. 19 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

He committed to Alabama last June upon receiving an offer at camp.

The kid is talking to an Alabama reporter right? Do you really think he will tell them if he is going to visit other schools? The day before he went up to Bama I saw him at Auburn with Nick Brahms. I was taking Jacob Copeland on a visit to Georgia that day and stopped by Auburn later that afternoon and saw them their. Leatherwood has become good friends with Brahms and has made a handful of trips around the camp circuit together and also visits to schools together. They are currently planning on coming down to Miami in July... I believe 15-16th. On top of all that Florida did do a Satellite camp here in Pensacola at Leatherwoods HS... and they are trying to make a push for him as well. I don't believe Leatherwood decommits anytime soon but I wouldn't be surprised if he did at some point his senior year. Also word on the street is that Leatherwood will be transferring to play at Navarre with Brahms. Just my .02 cents... take it for what it is.

I don't know if Leatherwood will visit or not but why exactly would he have to be so secretive about where he is potentially visiting? Other kids tell reporters all the time about their visit schedule. Why would he be different?

Also Brahms just named his top school as Auburn with UNC coming in second on 247. He said he plans on committing before the season. So I don't know where that leaves Miami. So as of now, it appears as if it really doesn't matter how close Brahms is to Leatherwood

Those are also the last two schools he visited. Miami still has a good shot if he has a good visit next month.

We need the flip of the decade here . Not only is this kid a beast of an OL , he also seems to be an emotional leader .

Saban is not going to pull Leatherwoods offer for visiting. You can do that type of stuff to 3 star guys without many offers but if he did that to a 5 star tackle he would tell Saban to kiss his *** and find a spot on the numerous teams begging for him to sign.

Also if Leatherwood is so scared of Saban pulling his offer for visiting he probably isn't going anywhere else anyway.

According to an article by Vandarius Cowan, Bama LB commit, him and Leatherwood along w another commit I can't remember have been recruiting for Bama-"savages want to play w savages" they said. Cowan also said they are close to getting a commit from an unnamed WR and that they have 2 silent commits waiting to come out. So Leatherwood is out and the WR could potentially be Jeudy if he isn't already one of the silents.

Jeudy isn't going to commit anytime soon. I really think he's anxious to see what we do in 2016. The WR is Davonta Smith I'm guessing. He just cut his list down to 3 and seems close to committing.

I $uspect that in the end, he will $ee what is in his $oul, and decide to play in the $EC We$t, which ha$ the highe$t $alary cap in $port$.

Yep. Biggest thing for UM and Jeudy is that Shavers just committed, Smith is going to Bama, and Ridley will be there for his first year if he chose Alabama. Idc about the "afraid of competition" bs. He would be crazy to go there and end up like his buddy SBB. Just stay at UM, play with an elite QB whether it's Kaaya, Allison, or Perry, in an elite offense. He'll be our 1 or 2 no doubt when he steps on campus just like Ridley at Alabama.

Sometimes competition is a good thing, but if you take that chance and don't end up winning out, you ***** yourself out of some money. Sure Bama might give him some cash to come there.. but Miami gets WRs paid in the league at just as good of a rate as Bama.

Did any of you guys see what Nike did to team vapor at the opening? They put Jeudy on team full of Alabama commits with Bandy being the exception. It looks like Nike wants Jeudy forming bonds with Bama kids so he can go to a Nike school.
