LB recruiting...again

Howard is too small to play LB....guy is like 5'10 and 175lbs.

Pierre? not sold on him until I see it against actual competition. 5'6 150lbs white kids don't count.

Lol Howard definitely isn't 5'10. Where are you getting this nonsense at? You may be right on the 175 as he's very light...But the kid is tall and rangy.

This should be the best linebacker group we've had in years not just with our 3 studs but the backups have to use this to get much better and become that force that we need

6'2" 178 at The Opening in Orlando. Just invalid being invalid.

Not a fan of turning good players away because of the next years class. Rarely works out for us.

"Jesiah Pierre is committed and they view him as one of the best-kept secrets in the country. "

...so there goes that...

In terms of rankings and recognition. He plays for an extremely small school that had like 12 kids on the team his sophomore season.

In SC we still have private schools who play 8 man football. Gaines Adams came from one of them. He went from an unknown 2* & 3* TE recruit to unanimous first team AA and 4th overall pick at DE. If our coaches think he's a small school sleeper, I believe them!

Staff uses our schollies wisely

I don't have the numbers but they offer significantly less scholarships than golden did. A Miami offer now means something again and not everyone is getting one.

I have no doubt in my mind if they are pushing for 3-4, next cycle then they will be able to pull it off no doubt

Man, I'm not seeing it. Here's what the depth chart looks like right now:

Starters -
Shaq Quarterman - stud
Michael Pinkeny - stud
Zach McCloud - average

Backups
Jennings - 3 star. Played limited snaps and looked like a 3 star.
Teraz McCray - JAG
Charles Perry - 3 star, JAG
Mike Smith - 3 star, average in space. Undersized DE playing LB with a history of injuries
Wayman Steed - 3 star, hasn't played football since puberty
Deandre Wilder - 4 star, flashed a bit. Good speed but underweight

Seems to me like we need to upgrade the talent at this position in a big way. And it's not like the D-line where you have the best position coach in America.... who the **** do we have coaching linebackers that is going to turn all these 3 stars in to studs?

This ain't Mississippi State... we need Miami caliber athletes at the LB position not a cupboard full of 3-stars and jags.

Thank you for this response. Taking 3 lbs isnt oversigning. Its common sense. It should be your goal every cycle regardless of who you have or think youre getting.

You think Wilder, Steed, and Jennings are the goods? Awesome! Now go recruit somebody who can potentially be better. Never get comfortable, even of you have a stable of 5 Stars.

You want 12 linebackers over a 4-year span?

12 over four years puts you at 9 or ten on the roster. Yes, three a season is reasonable. Only reason to slow down is if you get to the point of red shirting multiple linebackers per class. If they think they have hit on all three in both the 16 and 17 class, then the case for only two this year is strong. We may lose as many as 5 next off season if not sooner if two of the three starters have great years.

Yep, why not? Alabaga, OSU, Clemsons of the world do.

They basically recruit 3 yr players. Its part of Saban and Urbans pitch actially.

Wrong. From 2014 - 2017 a 4 year period OSU signed 10 LBs, Clemson 9 LBs, Bama actually signed 12 b/c 3 are no longer on the team (surprise). We have signed 6 over the last 2 years...and 11 over the past 4 years even with the Golden debacle. We are on pace with the 3 teams mentioned in LB signings. But please continue bending the facts to fit your narrative...

Edit: Pulled this from 247.

Im not sure how that disputes what was said about their pitches, or what the others did.

Was there ever a yr they took 1 LB ? Or 1 DT?

Clemson took 0 LBs last year. Boom.

Unless one of them looks like Roquan Smith next season or become sack artists, none of them are leaving. LBs don't declare unless they get to the QB.

2 LBs per year with a yr or two of taking 3 LBs in a 5 yr span is what you want to do at LB

I think it makes more sense to take 2 lbs in this class than to take just 1, but I don't think it's too big of a deal. I get the thinking with Steed basically being treated like an incoming recruit. However as we are currently seeing with the DTs, this could just end up being poor planning if Shaq, Pinkney, or McCloud end up declaring for the Draft.

If 1 or 2 declare early after this season, we will lose 4-5 Lbs this off-season, and it will look retarded that we didn't bring in 2 Lbs in 2018.

I think it's clear we should expect 3 LBs in 2019. But again even with 3 2019 recruits, it ONLY makes sense to take 1 in 2018 if you know Shaq, Mike, and Zach are going to come back for their senior yr

you guys are neurotic. we lost how many DL? and you are freaking out of LB's where we are 2 deep easily and just added a potential stud?

Anomaly. They also only took 14 kids total. Cmon cuzzo.

Lol. They also took no DTs, no TEs, and 2 Qbs. Clearly an atypical class

Yes stockpile as much talent as possible so when the Mcclouds of the world are not performing up to task then you hit em' with the "NEXT MAN UP" and another thing this roster is still filled with AL Failden's JAGS so we shouldn't be turning away talented players for the sake of number

Hate to admit it, but this is the correct way of thinking this day and age if you want to truly compete. You sign the best you can every cycle and let the chips fall where they may in regard to transfers, etc. It is the absence of this type of approach that has us needing 76 DBs in this class and still struggling big time with crucial DT numbers.

If we are all honest, there are some financial incentives that go on at an Alabama that enables them to keep stables full with 4-5 stars at certain positions, even when they can easily go elsewhere and start, but that shouldn't stop us from having such a situation as a goal, despite it being unrealistic without the $EC advantages.

Uh yes because if Shaq and Pinckney leave next year we are gonna be relying on true freshman to play big minutes in 2019. So yes I believe we should be signing at least one more this class. We can’t constantly rely on freshman to be great players and with our recruiting we tend to not get who we want every time

Did you even think for one second before typing this? In 2019 we will have Steed, Wilder, Jennings, and Patrick Joyner as potential LBs that are NOT freshman. Not to mention our 3 current starters will be on the team if they do not leave early. Its highly doubtful all 3 will leave early. Our entire 2 deep will consist of seasoned players...that is unless one of the freshman tear it up. Your post is nonsense...

Surprisingly I did think about it. I clearly stated if Shaw and Pinckney leave. I don’t think mccloud leaves. So just assume those guys leave we have wilder, steed, Jennings, mccloud and Joyner all of which have not proven a **** thing. That also makes 5 linebackers and have you ever thought of the possibility of someone getting hurt cause that happens bama had 4 backers have serious injuries this year. You have to have depth at that position. Don’t tell me anything about Shaq and Pinckney not leaving because who thought Norton and McIntosh were leaving at this time last year? No we are standing here holding our nuts cause we have no depth on the d line next year

Steed will make Pinckney have to work for his job which is great for his own development
