We only lost 1 of last year's 'Backers [Buchannan].
But so far Al has recruited 2 new ones [Figuereo & Bond] and should sign 2 more local guys [Thomas & Grace]. In addition, we're still after Foster and Powell, with a chance of landing one.
That's possibly 5 new 'Backers --- all quality players!

Question -- If your name is Cornelius or Armbruster, do you sign a lease on an apartment for next September? And if you're E. Johnson, do you start to mature & wise up?

It looks like Al is tryin' to upgrade this group. Whaddah think?

I think we need to try and get as much depth as possible before starting to move guys out. Maybe next year we can clean house, but make sure this year we can sustain through any injuries, suspensions, or anything else.

Movement usually doesn't start before Nat'l Letter Intent Day, and then not usually until after Spring Practice Depth Charts are published. Guys can see the writting on the wall just like you & I can. If they wanna play football, they look at a D 2 school.
 
First, we have to sign better players, otherwise this conversation is moot. Second, to be booted off the team, the existing player must eff up OFF THE FIELD, not on it. As long as they are hard workers and a good influence on the team, they are unlikely to be kicked off. They may CHOOSE to go elsewhere to play, but that will be their decision, probably with a nudge from our staff.

Think Al is always trying to bring competition to force the players to work to get better unlike Blandy who just gave spots to players based off of their rivals stars. Since Al is still battling these issues with entitled players from Blandy I think he is putting extra emphasis in this area to flush out the entitlement problem.
 
The roster needs to be purged every year if you expect to compete with the big boys for championships. Particulary so when sanctions are staring you in the face.

Golden is a class act and will be up front and honest with these kids. The bottom line though is he will have to make some unpopular decisions if he is going to get this team over the top.

Assuming [Yeah, I know, dumb assumption] they all wanna come. Who do you take?
 
I think Armbrister sticks around. Guy has a ton of potential, just raw. Not everyone can be a star from Day One, and he was a first year linebacker.

It's not like he has been here 4 years and is still messing up. First year playing the position. Ed Reed was out of position his first year playing safety here. Settle down.

I have followed UM football since 1984. I don't recall UM doing much "purging" in the 80s and 90s, when we were really good.

Armbrister was a RS FR who just moved to LB. Think he has time to develop.

Unfortunately he was a sophomore.. played STs as a frosh. I like him though there were times where he blew off some blocks and looked dominant.

We're going have a real solid LB group who will bring so many different looks.

It's a different game now man, every one of those roster spots is valuable as ****.
