Just want to know your opinion? I seen SM go deep on a play or two... but I know when J12 was here we went deep more often. Do you think J12 had a better touch on the deep balls? Why didn't we take more shots down the field? Is it lack of deep threat recievers because I know SM has a canon. Dorsett is fast but I think he is best at the slot. The pass he threw to Dorsett was a little short but it looked pretty. I am hoping D. Johnson can emerge as a deep threat for us. Just like to see some big plays thats all. I think we are playing a bit conservative, I'm glad we got the win though. Go Canes!

I would love to see us run the score up when we have a big lead, just miss those days (style points). Thats how you get back in the rankings...

It was one game, we had a different gameplan as BC was taking away the deep ball. I too would have liked to take shots downfield with our athletes in comparison to theirs but the game plan seemed to work as we were able to score 30 some points on offense.

Lets see what we do against Kstate as we took a few shots down field in the game last year but again we dont have travis or streeter.

PS: I wouldnt hold my breath on Davon being that guy, not saying he cant but the percentages are low

for some reason, i think Rashawn can be a deep threat. i have no evidence for this

Rashawn Scott are you listening?

He looked nice on that deep post, and Morris threw an absolute dart, those catches have to be made.

Jacory just loved to chunk up deep balls. Sure, sometimes they were successful, but he put em up into triple coverage with no worries too.

If we keep eating teams alive with the small stuff, and Duke keeps breaking big runs, the deep balls will open up.

As for Lockhart, dude just needs to get his playbook down is what they said. I want him more for the redzone offfense though.

All our guys can catch the ball down the field...our gameplan simply called for mostly short passes and screens. At this point in Morris/Fisch's careers, focusing on the gameplan and sticking to it are important. You execute what you know, and don't push it down the field when it's not there.

However, I will say this--elite offenses and OC's dictate what they want to do to the opposing defense. They don't say, "well ****--they took away the deep ball...let's just pass it short". Remember the Dorsey days? We did a little bit of everything, all predicated off of the run game. Playaction, hit the TE. Playaction, hit the FB. Oh, you just ran 2 straight blitzes? Here's a screen pass on 3rd down. After the 1st down, we'll follow that up with playaction and hit the WR deep. On the next series, we'll run the same play but hit the WR on the drag underneath for big yards. Are we passing so much you're in Nickel/Dime? OK--here's 6 straight runs out of 3 wide for 2-3 first downs. It honestly used to be that simple for Dorsey because he was so cerebral at the QB position.

When we get back to those days where we can do what we want when we want, we'll know we have a great offense, and namely--a great QB. For right now--we're only a good offense ran by a relatively green (but talented) QB with a few weapons to choose from. We have to take what the D gives us and stick to the gameplan...especially since our D isn't that good.

It looked like Lockhart might have been be able to provide a deep threat. Then he went ghost.

hold up!? yeah where is he? he's a freshman right? i know he was a stick figure so is he 'shirting?

I don't know. People saying he needs to learn the play book, but it sounds like dude is in the doghouse to me. Dude went from making spectacular catches erry day, to just completely disappearing the next day.

D. Johnson is fast and thats a plus... i know he can catch... But like someone said in another thread, he may just be a better game player than a practice player. Somepeople are like that... i have played sports all my life and you just see these types of things... guys balling in practice KT and cant do it on game day. Some just play better on game day and dont do too well in practice... Hope someone emerges though to be our deep guy...

BC safeties were very deep all game Their priority was to take away the big pass play. It hurt them because it allowed Duke more open space to run and we killed them in the short passing game. They game planned assuming last years offense. We have a QB now and his velocity on the ball has COMPLETELY changed our effectiveness. I hope K State loads up the box to stop Duke and we hit them over the top for a long pass.

BC had one mission - take away the deep ball - and minimize UM speed.

Tod defend the deep ball, in this game, the outside short stuff was available, and we took it.

If Kansas decides to take away the outside short stuff, AND the deep ball, more inside slants, screens, and runs will be available.

Let's just take what's available. Like Golden said, each week, we get another Bingo card.

^ This. Everyone relax and let's see what Fisch and Golden dial up this week. Now at a player level, yes, this is where we miss Streeter. I'm not sure that we have a legitimate deep threat receiver on this roster, but who knows...the season is still young.

Good stuff right here.....

JH threw deep way to often thought he was still at MNW......that had to stop...first game, we will get our deep passes that was confirmed when number 8 was introduced to the country....they have to respect our run now

Can't have a deep passing attack unless teams respect the short game.

I expect as the season goes along the passing game will open up.

As far as I'm concerned, Fisch showed KSU barely anything to game plan for against BC.

Miami will probably pound the rock early, keep Klein & Co. off the field, then utilize play action.

I have a funny feeling one or both TEs will have a big game Saturday.

Fisch said in the post game interview that infact the goal was not to try to go deep but to stick to the gameplan and he was very happy that SMorris did exactly as he was told. I think J12 would have taken more shots down the field. BC came out playing us with cushion to defend against the deep ball and Fisch wanted to take advantage of that and he was successful. He did say there will be a different gameplan for each team and some teams will open themselves up for us taking shots down the field. I do not think its lack of a deep threat, just not in the gameplan for game 1. That's all.
