How many one and dones only started half their college games?
I'm sure Kentucky had a couple, Devin Booker comes to mind, but that was more because those teams were loaded. Lonnie probably did too, but he was also hurt to start the year so its not really comparable.
Two top ten picks came off the bench for UK this past year. One of them, Reed Sheppard, is going to be the best player in this draft IMO.
Josh Primo, Patrick Williams, Peyton Watson, Johnny Furphy, and Josh Minott to name a handful. Most start but end up putting ugly numbers: Zaire WIlliams, Caleb Houston, Nasir Little, Cam Reddish, etc.
NBA executives justify their decisions through two lenses: small sample size with one and done and hard to predict future human performance of a teenager.
They say best to choose someone young with a lot of room to grow rather than someone in their early 20s whose larger dataset can be picked apart & would’ve already left early if he was a future star.
A lot of groupthink amongst the draft / recruiting world that leads to explaining away whatever you want to as a GM. Being mock drafted high early a year ahead of the draft is has tremendous impact on where a prospect is taken.
Brad Kaaya, Leonard Taylor, Jonathan Garvin, and Joe Jackson would’ve been Day 1/2 picks if NFL executives thought like NBA executives.
