KO Coverage squad

I'm confused. I thought Coley was like a big target at WR kind of like Andre Johnson or at worst a Hankerson. those types don't return kicks do they?

Andre did return kicks for us, he wasn't the full time guy but he could do it as I recall.

Watch Coley's video. He is explosive with the ball in his hands, more explosive than his measurables would make you think. I think he is just a "football player" that makes stuff happen when you give him opportunities.

D, if Dorsett shouldn't return punts, who should?

I like Elder or Coley there. Carter was also a good punt returner in HS, although he may have outgrown the position. I like Burns and any one of the three guys I just mentioned as KR when Duke's not doing it.

I think Carter is waaaay too stiff to be a PR guy and knowing Golden, he'll plays it safe on the PR - most coaches do. They typically want a seasoned guy, unless there's a gamebreaker. I'm not convinced Elder or Coley are that kind of player - right now - at PR.

D - are the folks that matter as impressed and hopeful with Elder as we are, or was he a "eh, we got a late spot, so let's take him" type? Just a little confused with why we didn't press harder for him earlier.... would love to know what was discussed with him pre-signing day.

I've had the same questions and to be honest, I don't know the answer.

However, I suspect that Elder's name will generate a ton of buzz once he gets in the program and people see how competitive and quick he is.

I bet Elder was a product of a small class and Alex Collins, more or less, jerking them around.

I wanna see us knock someone out on a Return, hopefully an F$U returner like rashad Greene or lamarcus Joyner

Throw Figueroa in that group as well.

Our return group should also get a boost with Elder, Coley, Burns and Carter. There is absolutely zero reason why Dorsett should be returning punts. He's not productive enough there and he's too valuable as a receiver.

I know there is exceptions to the rule, but in general I don't like frosh as return men.

We can always use Duke at key moments to minimize the issues raised by freshman return guys, but I just have to imagine someone else is capable of being productive back there.

I like the return game as a place for young guys to prove themselves. Elder (for instance) is going to have a hard time seeing the field in the base offense, but if he is ready to contribute as a returner, let him try and earn his way on to the field. OR so my thinking goes.

Back to making teams pay for returning the ball against us. That's what depth does to ST's those guys in the 2 deep need to make a name for themselves.

I didn't see it mentioned yet in this thread, but how do people here feel about the impact of AG coaching special teams this year? I have a feeling we will see significant improvement!

He's helped out with STs in the past. Not much is going to change. Our STs have been pretty solid since he got here.

Agree with this. The added depth will help the most IMO, no more walk-ons being forced to cover kicks becuase we have nobidy else.

Grace should stand out on kickoff coverage and ST. He's fast, fluid and has an instinct for the ball. I'd be surprised if we aren't talking about a big Grace ST hit by the end of the year.

/unless he shirts

Never seen a guy of his stature with such little wiggle.

It's weird because he's not stiff at all as a route runner.

Didn't play tag-you're it enough as a kid. Never understand how these 4.4 kids end up without any sort of "moves" (That sounds hacky to say but I can't think of a better word).

he was a qb as a kid...lol....ya i dont know if its comfortability or him picking up muscle...but his older family members i played with were definate movers and shakers...

Might have to just to provide STs depth (which I am okay with). Besides Grace, you have Blue, Kirby, Terry and Figs as being STs LBs. LBs are the biggest cog of the coverage units. I can see playing Figs and sitting Grace for the year just to have some stagger.
